If any game in history deserves a remake, this is high on the list. Very, very few games utilize multiple generations, and those that do don't do it too well. Only other ones I know that do it are Record of the Agarest War (which is average at best) and Romancing SaGa 2 (which remains in moonspeak).

It's very untapped.

I have to disagree, the music was really bland and the monster designs (especially the animations) were absolute trash.

Rhys kind of has a personality, as do a few of the waifus, especially the two brunettes. But otherwise, yeah, just a bunch of faces.

I really wanted to like the game, and ultimately, I think that if it were even fun to play, I would have. The half finished shit wouldn't even have bothered me if the dungeons were interesting, the bosses were challenging, and the ending good.

I liked it enough to play it, but not enough to play without a guide (I never used a guide for 2 or 4). The game actually has more cryptic bullshit than 2 does, as well.

>> No.1601720

Someone used to have a really long version of this on youtube. Unfortunately it was taken down.

Also, the "normal" battle music with the organ, that you will almost never, ever hear in the actual game, is good.

I was about to say that. When you get right down to it, DQ is pretty damn varied in its stories, more varied than given credit for.

It's unbelievable the amount of artwork this game has, though. Is PS3 really that popular in Japan?

More like a handful of artists liked the game (it had waifu shit before it was cool to have that) and there's some fanart. Hardly "unbelievable" amounts of it.

Are you in that situation? Play it and find out for yourself. I'm going to bet that it becomes a chore quite quickly. There are far worse games out there, though. I should probably just copy-pasta my usual list of complaints, but to put it briefly: the game feels half-baked and unfinished. And it probably was, Sega put the B-team to work on it.

>> No.1603584

Every enemy poisons you, including the robots. All towns look identical with green grass and brown wood houses, even those in the arctic snowfields. The sheer laziness that went into this game is astounding, but thankfully it is not very long. Beat it once just to say you did the whole series.

>> No.1603692

>Every enemy poisons you
this is probably the biggest flaw and what makes the game so tedious. It wouldn't be so bad if anti would ever fucking work.

>> No.1603743

>>1603471
It's not a bad game. Just disappointing compared to the other games in the series. If you want an oldschool JRPG to play it's pretty fun. Awesome OST, good art, cool waifu marriage gimmick. Just make sure you have a stomach for frequent random battles.

It does work if you use the magic system to put "points" into it. Still tedious, but that is what you are supposed to do.

>> No.1607563

The game was a massive disappointment. On the third generation I had the guy with the black cape (I went with Lena just to be funny), went to Termina to grind a bit, did stuff, etc. The only useful magic was res and gires, everything else was unreliable. Melee hit harder anyway. I think the game tried pulling off too much that would have been better to save for current gen when they could have fleshed out better. Unfortunately, if they were to release a remake with 10x more content they'd probably make it a stupid handheld port.

>> No.1607575

>>1607541
Or buy a reasonable amount of antidotes so you don't have to. I usually had my healers stack gires or res, or if just one res since one guy could have been hit really hard before the mobs fell. Though at endgame you'll have a bunch anyway.

I've read that Aron's ending might be the canon, since it's the only ending where Alisa 3 reaches Earth, and it's supposed to tie with PS2 most closely.

But I don't know, I'm not that familiar with PS3. Only played the game once and also went Sean.

>> No.1607667

>>1607623
Aron wouldn't make sense as canon (even though it's the best ending, I thought of it as Alisa III reaches Earth, informs them of Phantasy Star II events, they smarten up and PSII never happens) because it makes far more sense for Rhys to go with Maya. He was going to marry her and went on a quest to save her.

The sprites are well drawn, though. But drawing characters too detailed means they become impossible to animate properly.

Also, it may be that the game's sprites were drawn but the game was rushed out meaning proper animation went to shit.

Its sad given how brilliantly animated the original Phantasy Star was, and PSII had some neat animation even if there was no backgrounds.

Not to mention they put in a clause that outright tells you to reset the game if you get an escapipe and use it in the dungeon.

Instead of... you know, having whatshername show up in the town when you do that, giving you the items in the cell, and progressing the game? Fuck, I could do that in RPG Maker if I wanted and I'm shit at RPG Maker
