If the NES/Famicom gets modern clone consoles, why can't Atari?

Atari needs love too...

...wat?

There's like 4 different Atari Flashbacks, one of which has solder pads to add a cartridge slot to and back in the day there were VCS clones all over the 3rd world.

I know they have the Atari Flashback series of consoles...

It's just a system with a bunch of the games loaded in, it doesn't take carts. That's the only "clone" i know of, though.

Also has anybody made any DIY/bought any 3rd party Atari 2600 joysticks? I feel like the originals can be stubborn and they're cheaply made.I bet something with a joystick that has momentary switches would play so clean as opposed to using the metal touch contacts in the originals.

Guess I'm wrong, a cart slot can be added.

>> No.1600192

I'm aware of the Flashback consoles.

I mean like, modern hardware that would be compatible with today's HDTV's.

>momentary switches
You probably wouldn't want momentary switches to control a video game system. The Flashback 3 has Atari style joysticks that actually do have microswitches in them. Back in the day the Epyx stick was the go-to stick for serious Atari playing although the Coin Controls stick also had microswitches.

The French Atari 7800 has RGB SCART out. There are ways to perform RGB mods on most of the original consoles and then to convert the rgb to component.

Sorry when I said momentary switch I meant like a micro tactile switch. I have a broken controller and the circuit is suuuper simple. I was thinking about using the plastic ring in the controller that normally pushes down on the contacts to push down on some of these and get a click out of it.

Also, that stick looks pretty cool. Prices online are more than I would want to put towards an Atari joystick, though.

You should just think about getting a Flashback 3 just for the controllers.

i ham fisted a tact switch mod into a broken controller i had. plays wonderfully dispite me royally fucking up the solder work. (even used hot glue as shock absorbers though it was probably not needed)

pic related: how to fuck up a very simple mod. still managed to work perfectly dispite this. the reason it looks so bad is i did not clean the board very well so the solder did not want to stick at all.

Atari was very popular amongst retro collectors 10 years ago or more.
People who grew up with Atari and other 2nd gen consoles are now probably 40, 50, or older, most of them probably lost interest in the hobby, I know a few people who did.
Even 3rd gen is getting less attention lately because people who grew up playing NES, SMS and other 3rd gen stuff are now 30, 40 or older and starting to loose interest, SNES and Genesis are the ones getting the most attention right now, as well as 5th gen consoles.
Expect SNES and Genesis to decrease in popularity in about 10 years or less, and 5th gen consoles will be the most popular retro consoles, followed by 6th gen.

a certain flash back model you can mod to play carts eaisly

It's hard to see the solder job, did you hot glue the switches down to keep from wearing down the solder joints?

I was thinking about just doing it on a piece of proto-board but the switches look like they fit just fine, that's really fucking cool.

>>1600272
I definitely would if I saw one at a yard sale or the likes, but I already have the tact switches and a broken controller, it'd take like 15 minutes to solder/glue everything and put it back together. Gotta save muh money.

>>1600317
yes i used hot glue to work as shock absorbers so repeated use wouldn't break the solder joints.

it does require using a dremel to make the plastic work with the switches but it closes up perfectly fine

>> No.1600339

>>1600330
What exactly do you have to dremel? The plastic ring?

>> No.1600353

>>1600339
yeah, you flatten the plasting ring out so it don't have those dimples on it. and on the orange button the housing might catch the switch so you will need to make room for the switch if it does.

made a webm where i am using that controller to play missle command, i find it to be considerably more responsive than my best controller. (only thing you are missing from the lack of audio is alot of clicking noises and missle command doing it's thing)

It's probably the RF adapter. Mine does that but if I move it to the right angle it plays clean.

The Flashback 2 can be modified to add a cartridge slot.

$30 seems reasonable for one in good condition.
