I just spent the last 5 hours reassembling my old PC and installing 98SE in preparation for Rocket Jockey coming in the mail.
So I thought we could have a Windows 9x thread.

Recommend games, discuss LAN parties, show off your sidewinder, or post your rig. Whatever spins your floppy.

I'll get this thread going with games I'll be running on it.

Top ten personal games right here, only works in 98 though (I think there's an unofficial XP patch however)

>specs
HP Kayak XU800
Pentium 3 (733B Mhz)
640MB RAM
20GB HDD
Diamond Multimedia stealth 3D 2000
3D Labs Oxygen GVX1
Any suggestions on a good soundcard?

There's someone on craigslist with :
>1.) 3 DFX Voodoo3 3000 w/CD driver 16 MB AGP
>2.) Hercules 3D Prophet 4000XT w/CD driver 32 MB AGP
>3.) ATI Radeon 7000 32 MB AGP
>4.) Nvidia Geforce2 2X 4X 32 MB AGP
all for $20, thinking about picking them up, especially since they'll probably go in the trash if I dont. But idk if they'll be any better than the two I've got now.

Contemplating getting a flight stick and/or racing wheel. Are the sidewinder [force feedback] sets a good idea?

I have nothing to add other than, first of all, awesome work. Second, I REALLY wanted to play Rocket Jockey but only had like a Pentium 2 at the time.

I'd say pick up those cards. You can always sell them on ebay, especially that Voodoo card.

I attempted to install windows 98SE on top of DOSBox, although I think it's a lost cause since the emulation is so unstable and I don't think it can be easily fixed

OP here, I assume you're both wondering how to get Rocket Jockey to work again.
here's your options
>get a PC running 98 (works fully)
>get a PC running XP and patch the game (no music, other sound is fine)
>use a VM and install 98 or XP
I just happened to have a few old PC's laying around, which I cobbled together into a gaming rig. And honestly, thats probably the easiest way to do. So grab an old PC off craigslist, and a copy of 98 if its not on there already.
I downloaded an iso off TPB and found a program to make a 98 boot disk (floppy). Obviously you'll need a floppy drive to make that though (I've got a USB one plugged into my main PC, and the 98 PC has two built in.) Unfortunately unless your computer is running 95 or before, you'll need that boot floppy to install the OS. So check craigslist (or bother someone on facebook) for one.

There's also a somewhat active Rocket Jockey facebook group if you need non-4chan help.
