Time for a stupid question: I've retooled the sword now where it only strikes once per swing. I've made the actual attack a custombullet instead of a custompunch that way it doesn't have that annoying view yank.

Now here comes the stupid question: The sword's bulletpuff goes clang against walls, complete that sound and animation.

But for some reason it DOESN'T go clang against non-bleeding actors like barrels, and the subweapon chest. But it still plays the clang animation, just no sound. What the hell did I just break?

come to think of it, it's been funny in the past versions too, it makes the traditional slash sound effect as if you strike

(G)ZDoom no longer works for me, neither when installed from the DRD repository nor when I try to compile it myself. Knowing myself I probably fucked up some libraries when installing some other shit, but now I have no idea what exactly and how to fix it.

Well, missiles aren't very good currently, this is due to the lack of rapid fire. I am aware that they are using the Metroid Prime mechanic, but maybe these could be better used with the Super Metroid mechanic (fire them as fast as you can pull the trigger). Buffing the damage to compensate might outclass the beams, making people use the missiles every chance they get. But if doing it the Super Metroid way will leave options open.

Moving on to the Ice Beam... Currently, it's the lowest tier weapon, just above the missiles. I am not sure how to remedy this without making it OP, but I have some suggestions further down below. It's pros and cons:

Pros:
1. Has a small impact splash radius.
2. Causes lingering pain states that can perma-stun single targets.
3. Can eventually death-freeze targets caught in the splash radius if killed by it.

Cons:
1. Slow ROF.
2. Leaves you open to be attacked from other angles.
3. Only seems useful to single targets or tightly compacted groups.

Now you may say "just use it against single targets". Well I would, unless I have a different weapon that can kill that single target faster; then I would rather use it and not the Ice Beam. And this is the case 90% of the time.

Scenario:

Fully geared Samus encounters a Baron of Hell
Debates if she should use Ice Beam, Super Missile, or Power Bomb.
If she uses Ice Beam, it will take a good 10 seconds to kill it.
If she uses Super Missile, it will die with 2 shots.
If she uses a Power Bomb, it dies instantly.
Samus decides to use a Super Missile followed by a regular missile.
Samus kills the enemy and does not waste time or a Power Bomb to win.

My viable solution to this:

1. Remove any and all pain states it causes per hit.
2. Remove splash radius.
3. Add a progressive slow effect on the enemy, the more they get hit the slower they become, and will eventually freeze and shatter.
4a. Greatly boost the damage.
OR
4b. Grant weapon Rapid Fire capability (fire as fast as you can click).

The Space Pirate is getting a micro update! Eventually! What?

I decided to take some anon's advice last thread and figured I'd make some smaller updates instead of big ol' huge ones that take forever. Yay?

Vague changelog that's probably missing a lot of stuff.

- Mag Push and Mag Sling are added to your melee arsenal! Mag Push does exactly what you think it would do, while Mag Sling throws you toward enemies. Think Mag Pull, in reverse!
- Fuxt with some tic numbers for the melee.
- ROCKET LAUNCHA REPLACEMENT! Marston Arms RPG-2090 (The “Toolbox”), a deadly micro rocket launcher/flak cannon joins the fray!
- "Dahlia" Custom Concealable Weapon, a rockin' crossbow with optional explosive arrows. Woo!
- New chaingunner, lost soul, and some more zombie variants make their appearance.
- Shotgun ammo types! Shock, Poison, and Hellfire rounds are now randomly dropped. Neat!
- Fixed pistol sounds and new smooth animations are in.
- You can melee attack with the pistol, shotgun, and the uzi. I don't know if you could do that before. I don't think so, but if you could, now here's your reminder!
- Probably other things!

I'll be sure to post screenshots and shit during the next week or so. No expectations on a release, but I figure it'll be sooner since I'm putting off 2/3s of the new things for future updates. STAY WITH ME /vr/!

Also on the Zandy version, I have no idea when I'll update it. The shotgun poses a problem with it's new ammo types and as much as I want to keep those for Zandy, the unloading/reloading of alternate shell types really slows down the gameplay. Also, until Zandy updates, Mag Push and Mag Sling aren't in, and because Zan&'s renderer is weird, I'm having to redo some muzzle flashes/effects since semi-opaque things look awful in it.

Also really want to do mugshots for this upcoming release, but no idea if they'll make it in. WE'LL SEE!

Make an animation and some sprites so that rather than each shell being pulled out and then the new ammo type put in, it gets opened and all the shells spray out onto the floor, where they can get picked back up by the player if they have room.

I'm a twitchyfuck + a few minor traits (some good, mostly bad) from the others...

But I like Brutal Doom, even though I agree with a lot of the criticism it gets. (IE, tone down the blood, I don't mind blood at all, but jesus christ, it gets silly when I'm painting the room with it), and maybe a few of the more histrionic displays of ultraviolence could be edged out, but I *love* the shotguns, explosions, tactical changes, and animation changes that game makes.

In fact, I'm working on hybridizing it with a few other doom projects right now (It's a huge project, and I'm far from an Artisan, though, so this could take forever or never get done), and I think if it ever sees completion, you guys will like the results.

My biggest issue with the gore is that there's so much of it that it gets in the way of gameplay. Vanilla's gore is simple, effective, and even has gameplay relevance - the size of a bloodsplat denotes the amount of damage that shot did. Brutal's completely drops that in favor of MORE EXTREME HARDCORE BRUTAL RIP AND TEAR EFFECTS, and all the sounds that it makes drown out the sounds that actually matter, i.e. gunshots and enemy sounds.

Yeah. In general, your Doom hitscan weapons (fist, chainsaw, pistol, shotgun, chaingun, ssg) roll for either 5, 10 or 15 damage. You can more or less tell which rolls which by the size of the bloodsplat. 5s being tiny, 15s being big.

With modded weapons you can generally expect roughly the same. Douk's pistol in samsara constantly makes tiny 5 splats, while a railgun will make big ones.

I love talking about my planned characters, so here we go:

Kuros (Straight from Wizards and Warriors, pic related): He'll be a taller, gangly knight, armed with a long sword that has a further reach than Blaz's, but not as strong, his secondary weapon will be a break action SSG/Rifle, the only hitscan weapon in GMOTA. His specialty will be a powerful kick that can be charged up and let you punt enemies away Battletoads style, complete with that CRUNCH, he'll also have a higher, floaty jump. He'll also feature NES music and sound effects

Samson: An alchemist, his primary weapon will be hurling random flasks, some will shatter and vanish, some will break and leave glass shards, and some will clunk off monsters and land as a health bonus. His secondary will be the Ruby Wand, which will be retooled in his hands to feature more piercing spells and some other fancy-pants stuff. He'll be the hardest character to play as, because unlike Blaz and Kuros, he won't have an additional passive armor trait, making him more vulnerable

Well, I always figured it as an option, that you equip it with an inventory item or something, and that it then makes a bayonet animation with a custom attack play instead of the quick-kick.

And yeah, it could be cool, to shoot off some rounds at some enemies, then bury the bayonet to the muzzle of the gun into an imp's chest.

I recommend an oldschool cruciform bayonet (sometimes called a "Pig Sticker" by the Chinese), like on old Mosin Nagant or Enfield rifle, a star-shaped stab-wound is much more gruesome and harder to treat than a regular knife-blade stabwound.

The cross-shaped wound is harder to press together, and the fact that the bayonet tapers out towards the base means it will forcefully spread out the tissue even further.
I think the Hague convention banned these.

I like it if a reload is done efficiently, quickly, and as soon as the gun is empty.

Alot of the original Doom 3's early to midgame gameplay was based on survivng in the dark, and alot of that had todo with managing your equiped gun. SO to see you'd have to pull out the flashlight but that left you vunerable to an attack in the dark.
It wasn't the best but it made Doom 3 unique challenging and a tad unerving.

BFG edition just lets you use a flashlight while you have a gun out. Also the lost levels are mostly just copy pasted levels from the original

Enemy count gets a bit ridiculous but the level design is so fucking butter smooth I have a hard time complaining. It averts most of the usual bullshit too, revenant spam is rare, archviles are used sparingly, chaingunners are suprisingly uncommon considering how many fucking humans there are

My biggest gripe is how pain elementals are almost always placed in ridiculously open areas that guarantee they'll spam at least a dozen fucking souls before you manage to get to them

The BFG now deals the intended ray damage, and the self splash-damage is significantly lowered with the removal of the radiation damage. The player can now only get up to 16 damage from his own ball (still significantly less than what other living things get from it).
Also, the Archvile has been reverted to 700 health. Also be sure to take note of visual changes as well. :P

It literally happened because me and Highwire (a good vanilla 3DR-style mapper) thought it would be fun if we made an AMC headquarters map. I will say this though, my advice for any kind of project similar is to just NOT plan stuff out obsessively. Despite what people say, that doesn't work when you're dealing with people modding in their free time, who can come and go like nothing. I coded stuff and added in a fuckton of enemies, weapons, effects .etc .etc and everybody else just made what they wanted to with it, and the end result worked. Ep2's development has been pretty much the same, it's going slower because it's just me and a newer mapper called MickyC but it's still going well.
