hey guys, just a quick question here

will a snes motherboard fit into a super famicom shell without any real modification? i've heard they can be swapped, but i know that the snes uses a sliding reset switch and the sf uses a push down reset. maybe they are the same, but i can't find a decent picture comparing the two. the reason i'm asking is simply for aesthetics. the super famicom just looks more appealing, and i would rather have that look, but without having to use a step-down transformer.

>> No.1560556

I'm pretty sure you can use a SNES power supply to run a SFAM. What you can't do is fit SNES cartridges in the SFAM's cartridge slot. It's too narrow.

>>1560556
i've heard that the snes is ac while a famicom only uses dc. ac could fuck it up.

>> No.1560567

>>1560559
>>1560556
also, the super famicom uses the original famicom psu. so a snes psu won't even fit. a nes psu will fit, but it's ac.

>>1560559
Only PAL Super Nintendos are AC. US SNESs and Japanese SFAMs are practically identical, boardwise. I'm still not hearing how you're planning to plug in your SNES carts though.

>> No.1560575

I'd just put together a power supply, there are always dozens of assorted DC power supplies at thrift stores. Just get one that's like 9v 750+ma and put the right tip on it.

i was literally going to buy a shit ton of fc sports games for cheap and then just remove the front labels and print out custom ones while fitting my us snes games inside.

>> No.1560745

finally got my answer, as long as it's the same model revision (1chip, aup, etc.) it will indeed fit and work as normal. also, the reset switch is the same, the snes had a strange mechanism that pushed down when the purple plastic was slip upward. so yea, i'm in the middle of finding an aup famicom (identified by the fcc sticker) and will begin converting my snes library to a sleeker looking collection.

OP

Yes, yes you can swap an NTSC JP board with a US board into a Super Famicom.

Done it, rather simple, small modification is needed with reset button (nothing more than a dremel will do)

get a sexy looking System that's fully functional and no worries on the Power Supply.

I would imagine some modification needs to be done to that LED.

>> No.1563004

>>1562985
actually no. The LED is part of the Controller port, which the ribbon is the same on both the US and JP Boards.

>> No.1563064

>>1563004

On the US version the LED is on the front left. On the Japanese version it's on the top right. The LED is affixed to the mini board that the ports are on, so their has to be some kind of modification to move the LED.

OP here

bought a famicom, and found an ac/dc adapter that's the same specs as the gen 1/atari jaguar psu's. so i won't be going through the switch.

You do not use the US Controller port on the JP Shell.

Reuse the Controller port from the JP Case and plug it in the US Board.

Like I stated earlier its mostly all plug in play with a small modification to the reset button.

May I ask why you would do this? I am genuinely confused. Did you get an inferior mobo revision in an SFC and want to put a 1CHIP SNES mobo in the SFC shell?

>> No.1566421

>>1562973
Or you could have kept the original board and got a comparable 120V power supply that actually has a standard connector unlike that fucking stupid one thats on the US SNES!

For anyone else: The Super Fami takes DC power so using an AC->DC adapter always works here no matter where its from.

SFC can take the same power adapter as a Sega Genesis/Master system.

If you can something else thats the right size, the power adapter needs to be:
Center negative
9v - 11v out
>800mA

Go buy a working Super Famicom on eBay for damn cheap, Retr0bright it if its brown/yellow, get a power adapter.
