Guess you could call Conker's Bad Fur Day Rareware

>> No.1558368

That raises a question: Would any of Rare's games be considered rare? For the NES, I know that RC Pro Am 2 is one of the harder to find titles. But I refuse that there's a single N64 Rare game that's anywhere near rare status. Those fuckers were the only people who made games for it.

Rare means it's in short supply and harder to obtain.

Expensive can be attributed to "rare", but not always. Games like Radiant Silvergun and Guardian Heroes are far from rare, but they're in demand, so they warrant a hefty price.

>> No.1558407

>>1558393
Well I get that, I just don't know what games are actually rare and what aren't. I don't think there's any sort of database that judges rarity of a game. I know stuff like Earthbound isn't actually all that rare, it just has a bloated price.

I guess Pocky & Rocky 2 and Mega Man 7 are the most expensive games I have.

I was able to get it in 2005 for fairly cheap.

I was 12 in 2001 and didn't want my mom to see the game, so that's why I waited a few years. But then I went online several years later and saw how so many people had their parents buy it for them when they were in single digit ages. I guess everyone had much less strict parents than I did.

It's one of the most obscure NES games ever released. In fact, if you look up Sqoon, the only things people will mention about it is it's sheer obscurity. Some people claim that Ogre Battle 64 and Sword Master for the NES are pretty rare but I'm not convinced especially about the latter.

Anyway is pic related rare? It's a game I own that I haven't seen anyone else owning or even selling at online auctions. I have NEVER seen anyone talking about it either. And yes, I'm aware it's also known as Linus Spacehead's Cosmic Crusade.

I think that's just the Euro release.

And god damn did Codemasters make some of the most impressive NES games. Come to think of it, why did it seem as if English programmers were among the best in the field? They made Starfox, they made GTA3 (an amazing feat given the PS2's hardware), and they made all those impressive C64 games.

Oh come on. You and I both know that the ESRB was (and still mostly is) worthless when it comes to actually conveying to parents "Hey, don't fucking buy this for your kid".

And anyway, I don't say it to the detriment of the game. I fucking love me some Conker's Bad Fur Day. I'm only saying that the reason so many kids had it was straight up because it looked like a kids game.

>> No.1558574

Of course, though it could be argued that parents don't understand game ratings like they do movie ratings, but I digress; your main point is correct, it's just easier to understand the reason for Conker's Bad Fur Day slipping through the cracks when you consider parents not understanding the rating system.

Shining Force: not rare but very valuable due to desirability.
Arcade Classics: one of the rarest games for Game Gear, especially complete
Metal Gear Solid Collection (Canadian version): games are very common, but the box is hard to find. Most copies found are the American version box, even in Canada.
Rockman.EXE Operate Shooting Star: uncommon by DS game standards; not a great seller.
Megaman X4, Megaman 8. Guardian Heroes and Herc's Adventures: fairly rare games.
Resident Evil: Not rare but valuable due to desirability.
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2: uncommon and desirable, though less so today than pre-digital times.
Skies of Arcadia: High value due to desirability. Slightly uncommon.

Not pictured: Robocop vs. Terminator for Game Gear (box is uncommon, rest is common), Bujingai: the Forsaken City (uncommon PS2 but pretty inexpensive) and Sonic Jam (disc only).

I gave my SNES, NES and N64 carts and consoles to a friend because they "collect" and I couldn't be assed to sell them and he loves to actually play them on console.

Had all the megamans, megaman x's, chrono trigger, final fantasy 2 and 3, most of the other "good" snes games, secret of mana, etc all with box and manual (as a child I was blessed with autism)

So... yeah. I just either go hang out with him to play old games or I emulate them.

Running lowers your health, and makes the screen swirl around, but you can meditate, in safety, to regain your health. The only enemies I've run into so far are pale white imp looking creatures, and floating ghosts. The puzzles are ok so far, it took me around 5-10 minutes to figure out this zodiac animal tile one.

One MAJOR downside is the voice acting. Their mouth don't move. At all. Yet they're talking. Very distracting, but thankfully there aren't too many cutscenes as far as I can tell.

You're right about that.

British developers specifically were fantastic, in many fields other than games. Programming, design (game, visual, media), they had an excellent reputation and a remarkable amount of talent.

But the subsequent generation(s) of pretenders saw to the end of that. Don't take the UK seriously anymore. That time has passed.

>That time has passed.

Everything is cyclical bro. When you see things have decreased in quality and talent, don't be disappointed they're not trying anymore, be glad the new generations will be tired and will try something new, something better.
This new graffix frenzy will shortly come to an end. In the PSX days we all wondered how amazing the future consoles would be with realistic graphics. Now that day is here, and most of it is trash, because good graphics don't make a good game, no matter how crisp that cutscene is.
Games will change. Look at the new Rayman games, they're slowly trying to open a new path.

You're either thinking of X1 and X2 or outright mistaken. X3 has never, ever, ever been that cheap. It was one of the most expensive SNES games in the late 90s to early 2000s (Around $60 on average), then it went down to about the $40-50 range around 2004-2005, then it started creeping back up after the X Collection came out in 2006 because only the PSX version was on the disc and demand started going up for the original version, and this retro boom (Which pretty much began in 2008) kind of snowballed on top of it.

I've been looking for X3 for almost 14 years now and I've never, ever seen it below $40, and even the ones at $40 were in terrible condition. I snagged X1 and X2 when they were at really low prices around 2004/2005 (About $10 for X1 and $20 for X2) and X3 around that time was still too expensive for me to bother. I wish I had gotten it then, along with MM7, but oh well.

There was some cool shit in it, but I agree it wasn't even close to the best Megaman. It felt... too... kiddy? I guess. The sprite was big and it was very cartoony, and even though the NES ones were cartoony (partly because they kind of needed to be) the SNES was capable of making games on par with the old NES games while looking modern (see: X series)

I like it, I like the shit in it like the Rush Adapt. I actually thought 6 was the most "fun" despite being the "worst" megaman because of the cool shit like the punchy suit and the flying one, it just felt cool, and I wish they expanded on it.

It's all hype. Game is not rare, a slight uncommon at best. Nintendo did a lot to try and market it with the giant box and marketing in Nintendo Power. They wouldn't do all that shit to make 10,000 copies of a game.

>> No.1567719

inflated hype from sites like starmen.net, and e-celeb reviews on youtube.

The game isn't rare (there are always copies on ebay - compare that to a REAL rare game, like Psychic Killer Taromaru or Super Tempo), but it's praised as the second coming and price gouged accordingly.

OT:

I don't have a picture right now, but while I don't own super-ultra-rare games, the rarest ones in my collection are probably:

Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean (cib)
Lunacy (sega saturn cib)
Strider 2 (cib)

I do own Guardian Heroes disc-only for the saturn, but that's currently being sold on ebay. I offered the thing as a Buy-It-Now at $45, but people have now bid on it past the $50 mark (fine by me!). Someone could have just gotten it then and there, lol.

I do have some semi-rare ($40-50) games like Shining Wisdom, Bulk Slash, and Elevator Action Returns, but my definition of rare is not in the Magical Chase territory.

In general, I don't spend more than $50 on video games, but I recently broke that rule with Lunacy ($65 - a stupid funny game, but not worth the price!). I'll probably do it more in the future as I pick up some Dreamcast shooters on my radar. At least with those I know i'd get my money's worth, as opposed to spending that much on Burning Rangers!

I have Rhapsody. But I bought it used a very long time ago and it must have been owned by a really careless kid. It's scratched up but works fine. And it has the soundtrack and manual.

I have Vay for Sega CD. But I never had a Sega CD. Someone thought that Saturn and Sega CD were the same thing and gave me a bunch of games they had.
I have Illusion of Gaia and Secret of Evermore, both complete. But I'll probably never play them again because I don't see me ever getting another SNES.

I probably have a few other games. But I can't recall right now.
