Can we have a Namco thread?

I fucking love me some Rolling Thunder.

How come Namco can't make collections as good as the PS1 Namco Museum games anymore?

A better question is why hasn't Namco released something akin to Sega Ages.

I know some of their arcade games got an upgrade here or there, but I mean an actual collection of remade stuff.

Of course, they probably have and I'm just not aware of it.

The Xbox 360 collection is massive. It doesn't have the walk-around 3D museum, but it has pretty much any old Namco arcade game you can think of.

Splatterhouse & Pac-Man.
I kinda wish that remake of Splatterhouse would have come to PC.

Yeah that's a dayum shame. Did Namco Museum Remix/Megamix on Wii come out any good?

Anyone else enjoy the shit out of Tokyo Wars back in the day? My favorite arcade had a 4 player setup and my friends and spent quite a few bucks on that game.

Was sad that it never got a port to a home console.

Same here. It's a bit too simple and low on content, but shooting the shit on that city map is fun.

I've beaten it already, on several versions actually. Arcade, Game Boy, PC Engine and Famicom.

Probably one of the hardest games I ever played. Those extra modes are pretty brutal.

Best Namco game
Best arcade platformer
Most badass playable character

What's your excuse for not wanting to behead a dragon in midflight or stabbing Benkei in the face?

The PSP one was pretty sweet, but I think it's because modern gamers just don't give a shit about Pac-Man or any other arcade classics.

I'd love an HD version of Valkyrie, Genji & Heike, and Shadow Land.

And a new version of Sky Kid akin to modern shmups would make my dick diamond hard.

Probably my favorite of their older games (though I love the series in general). Klonoa isn't bad at all either.

On that note, anyone find it a little funny that they only bothered to ever bring Legend of Valkyrie over a single time, and only as part of one of their collections on the Playstation? Given how many collections they've done for various systems over the years, I'm a bit surprised they didn't include it in any others.

I tried playing Tales of Eternia but for some reason, I just cannot get into it. I am in the second half of the game at least, I think Celestia is the second half. The combat feels really slow. Granted, I only played the PSP version. Is PSX faster?

>> No.1557581

>>1557457
The PSP version is more or less a direct port as far as I know, but I've only played the Playstation original; not sure if it might feel a bit faster in comparison. And I'm not sure why you'd say combat feels slow. For the most part I found it pretty fast paced all the way through (though some fights against a few certain enemies, like mimics, can be fairly long and annoying, at least earlier on).

Only real issue is that the combat is a bit unrefined compared to later games if you've played those, given you can really only do you normal melee hits>base arte>arcane/sacred arte as a combo (as Reid anyway). That said the game still holds up very well considering how old it is, and the team that made it really did a good job on the fluidity of combat to the point most later games in the series would build off it as a base for the flow of their own systems (compare to both versions of Phantasia and Destiny, where most spells and summons would interrupt the flow of combat until finished).

Who are you playing as anyhow? Reid or Farah are generally a lot more fun than the other characters (and you should be working on increasing Slash/Thrust/Punch/Kick levels for both characters for new, more fun artes; if you've been stuck with your basic artes the whole time I can see how it might feel a bit slow I suppose), at least from a gameplay standpoint (it would take a few more games for the main casters to really start to become fun to play as, at last if you ask me).
