What do people generally considered as the top five or so Master System games?

Castle of Illusion/Land of Illusion, Alex Kidd in MW, Psychic World, Batman and Summer Games would be my choices. I also like most of the arcade ports.

>> No.1553630

I have a fondness for Golden Axe Warrior and Miracle Warriors.

There are a few other games that I enjoy, but I don't know if I consider them "top 5" material.

Okay.

>> No.1553648

Wonder Boy II & III
Penguin Land
Shinobi
Sonic
Alex Kidd

>> No.1553651

In no particular order:
Dragon's Trap.
Land of Illusion.
Alex Kidd in Miracle World.
Penguin Land.
Putt and Putter.

There are several other great games I owned and loved, but these are the ones I'd recommend to everyone: one action/adventure, two platformers and two puzzle games (one of which is puzzle/platformer).

>>1553623
That's six games. Castle and Land are two different games. I had both. As well as Legend of Illusion. And sorry for saying >>1553637. I just particularly dislike that game, apologies. Nonetheless, I was needlessly rude. I'm sorry.

Lucky Dime Caper, Sonic 1 and 2, Enduro Racer, California Games, Wonderboy 3, Castle of Illusion, Shinobi, Double Dragon. Lots of good games, just not as many as the NES.

>> No.1553687

I was a Master System kid, I had like forty games, but the hard truth is that Wonder Boy 3 is the only truly good game. I wish I could say Phantasy Star, but it's not something you'd really wanna play anymore.

I don't care, this game still make me feel like a million dollars.

As for my top 5:

Golvellius
Psycho Fox
Daffy Duck in Hollywood
Action Fighter
Global Defense

Zillion, Castle of Illusion, Sonic, Golden Axe Warrior and Alex Kidd in Miracle World.

Really, these lists just make me sad that I didn't have a Nintendo. I hate to admit it, but those snotty Nintendo kids were right. These games blow.

seconded, a lot different than the other versions but it's got a lite rpg upgrade/character advancement thing that I really liked

Is it different?

I've been going over my SMS games, too. I'll second Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (Or just play Dragon's Curse on TG-16, it's the same game)

I also second Golden Axe Warrior, sure it's a zelda clone, but hey, I said this about Neutopia also.. if you loved Zelda and know it back and forth this is basically like getting a whole new Zelda game!

I grew up on the C64 version, but Impossible Mission is an awesome game.

Zillion is awesome but everybody knows that.

Currently checking out Kenseiden and Spellcaster myself.

>> No.1553783

Is Wonder Boy III the one that's an Adventure Island clone? If not, which WB is?

>> No.1553791

>>1553783
You've got it backwards. Adventure Island 1 is a clone of Wonder Boy 1.
AI2 and WB2 are entirely dissimilar however. NAI (TG16/PCE) is best AI, by the way. Well... best incarnation of AI1, anyway.

Phantasy Star, you dicks. I first played it in 2013 and it was great. I don't even like JRPGs. I don't even like its sequels. And it was still enjoyable.

Is that right?
WB1 was released on the SS1 board for arcades in early January1986 then ported to SMS in Japan on 22nd March the same year and January 2nd the year following in the rest of the world. Adventure Island has never seen an arcade release but was ported to FC/NES by Hudson as the Nintendo ver of WB1. It was released in Japan sometime in September 1986 and with a NA release 1st September 1988. Most of the rest of the world never got its release but some of the PAL countries saw it brought over in mid 1992.

I picked up Sonic Chaos on a flea market today and hooked it up to a black and white CRT I bought yesterday for $16.

This is how I experienced this game for the first time 20 years ago. 'Nostalgia' doesn't cut it. Such a great game (despite some bullshit bottomless pits later on).
