I haven't played it beyond initial looks yet. That's bizarre if there aren't restrooms, then again some of the /v/ scenarios are outright ridiculous. Not quite as impossible as you'd expect, but pretty close to it.

On the flip side, you actually can buy land and construction rights to connect both halves of the park.

I kinda want to make a post-apocalyptic themed scenario, but I'm not very imaginative when it comes to scenario making. The general premise would be the world has been ravaged by war or a meteor or something, with craters and destroyed buildings everywhere, and in order to help boost the remaining population's morale and optimism, you have to build an amusement park (or repair a destroyed one similar to Rotting Heights), but technology has basically been reset so you mostly have wooden rides. Guest generation and park rating will be set to hard mode, and everyone enters the park angry.

Nah, you have to edit each scenario (or save game) in the editor and pick a category. Which is a damn shame. When I made the RCT1 scenarios, I just put the originals under beginner, CF under challenging, and LL under Expert. But it'd be better if we could make our own tabs.

It might be the fact I feel the need to make them really long that's causing the intensity to go up.

RCT2's downsides are the lack of different landscape and wall colors, shitty scenarios, and most coasters with different train types are a different ride entirely, which makes the build menu messy. Fortunately there's a pack with all the RCT1 scenarios remade for RCT2.

RCT1 has a dated interface with some annoying quirks, such has having to remove trees manually before placing a ride and you can't hold shift to adjust the height of rides.

Not defending Atari, but you have no clue what types of mobile games are out there. Not every game is something simple and quick to play like Angry Birds. There are tons of games that use the exact same "do a bunch of stuff for a minute, wait for it to finish, then do a bunch more stuff for a minute" model. And if properly done, it could actually provide a more realistic simulation of actual park management. It can take years for real world amusement parks to expand and build new coasters and it's always been an acceptable break in realism that we can just plop a massive-ass Giga Coaster down instantly. So imagine having to plan ahead in your park expansions, building up what you think you'll need in the future instead of being able to just demolish and rebuild instantly.

But again, that's if it was properly implemented, which the new game definitely isn't.

Roller Coaster Tycoon is a series of simulation games based on amusement park management, with a focus on roller coasters. Any description of the series beyond that is meaningless fancruft. I had another go at making a shuttle woodie. I'm really happy with the layout (helix around the lift hill and that switching banked hill) but the stats/operation arent quite what I'd like. The lack of a second lift means it just barely gets back into the station, and I can't set it to not do a station pass, so it takes an extra 20 seconds slowly moving back to and through the first drop. The lack of the second lift also means that it must take the first hill too fast, which is solely responsible for the rather high vertical gs.

Base your park around guests showing up, spending their money, and then leave as soon as possible. Having guests stick around after they've spent their cash just leads to lower ratings and an inability to bring in new guests with money. In case you pick a scenario that starts with an empty park:

Start small with a relatively short pathway. Build one or two gentle rides, at least one thrill ride, food stands, information kiosk and a toilet and then focus on a rollercoaster.

Once you do this, you should hire at least one handyman and engineer to keep shit clean and running.

Keep in mind that the number of attractions in your park affects the cap of how many people are being spawned to enter the park: The more attractions, the more people will come.
Therefore money is always best spent rather than saved. Building an attraction will draw more people to your park and it will net the money back very soon.

To help you keep organized, you could extend your main pathway always in similarly-sized increments and hire a handyman and allocate him to that new path right away.
Also don't forget garbage bins and benches to keep the paths clean and your guests happy.

It's really not that difficult. Start with an easy scenario and learn from that.

Youre lift hill turns are fine. That s-bend might be bad, though. The main problem is that your drops are too large and the ride is too long. Rides without a steep to flat transition element have a kinda low drop height limit just on account of the forces in the tight pitch change. Try removing the last drop and making the first two pull out of the drop higher. Woodies are inherently more intense, so you should try to keep lateral gs to 1.5 and vertical to 3/-1.

Well, they're definitely supposed to come after a drop to slow down the car. But since the deceleration introduces G-forces, they probably shouldn't be too high. The way I did is make small drops and then a stretch of water for about as many tiles as the drop was high, as you can see by these 17 drops in the stats.

Whether this is really better than bigger drops though I'm not sure about. This might be worth experimenting with. It's all about getting that perfect G-force zone though that makes it exciting enough but not too intense.

I've been making some scenarios lately. what are your preferences as far as land purchasing, research, guest stats etc. A lot of the time I make them with everything already researched and all land purchased because i just like to focus on building comfy parks and not having to wait around as much. but i could make some changes to some of them to meet the desires of others. Thoughts?

Small thing I've noticed: If a guest is eating, and you try to drown them, and they finish their food before they drown, the animation for drowning restarts and they float for a half second.
>>1562249
There's a difference, yeah. I think the Oakwood Springs 2 file has a fixed objective year, while No Deadline obviously has no fixed year, you just need to keep the rating above 700. 2014 has no fixed deadline and I updated the coaster. Long Lake has the fixed tile, I no longer have the original file with the missed plot.

A lot of that is arbitrary design choice, though. What would be really cool is two branches of roller coaster research: tech and design. Tech would progress from wooden to mice/mini to looping-type steel to corkscrew-type steel to twister-type steel to giga-type (truss) steel. Design would develop things within a tech class, like stand-up, flying, swinging, or 4d.

Say you have a 50k loan at 10% a year. thats 5k a year in interest and divided by the 8 months for the year comes to 625 a month. thats easily manageable for a park with 3-4 coasters

An intensity rating of 9.94 is tolerable. People will still ride it, but it's a bit on the high side. Any higher and it'll start to affect the excitement negatively and will push up the nausea rating more.
Constructive criticism: Learn to use block sectioning. It does lower the excitement a bit (no more than 10% in most cases) but the tradeoff is more trains and safer rides.
Also, not sure why there's two chain lifts. With a drop that big you should have plenty of speed and momentum to keep the train going through the whole ride.
Anyway, practice makes perfect and you're on the right track.

I tried my hardest to keep it under the red. The second chainlift is because the first run it did not have enough momentum to make it up so I had to chain lift it. I could have only use the chain for the last half but I guess I was lazy.

Even in the red can be tolerable sometimes (the algorithms are such that you can make a short coaster with a single 10+g turn and the intensity will still be less than 3). Intensity is what matters most to the guests, but getting as much excitement out of that intensity as possible is desirable, as excitement is primarily responsible for guest satisfaction and how much you can charge. Achieving that generally means reigning in the forces a bit, as things start to get uncomfortable even before the red zone. Making a longer ride is better than harder turns for getting both intensity and excitement high.

Thanks for making me play this game again /vr/.
I just began my first park on RCT2 and I have a couple of questions:
How do you make those mega coasters if you cannot build ingame while paused?
And, I know roller coasters are the main way to make money, but as another anon said, not everyone goes to parks to ride one, meaning, it's "economically ok" to build slow paced attractions too right?

>How do you make those mega coasters if you cannot build ingame while paused?
Custom coasters seem really hard to make at first, but once you get the basics down and get some practice in, you can fill a park with custom rides.
> it's "economically ok" to build slow paced attractions too right?
Yes, there's nothing wrong with plopping some of those down.

>> No.1567474

>>1567441
Normally what I do is build mega coasters once I've established a steady income, or if I'm waiting for the scenario to finish. Until then, just build small woodies and other cheap coasters. They don't have to be huge to make money. A couple hills and an inversion or two is enough. Flat rides don't generate much cash but they help bring more guests to the park.

>> No.1567479

>>1567441
Some advice for that scenario:
Block off ALL the paths branching out into the castle areas you're not using, it makes the guests get lost in your park and they will stay away from your rides

>> No.1567483

>>1567441
You have way too many food stalls for a park that size. Do as another anon said and remove all the outer paths, it'll keep guests from getting lost and you'll have more room on the edges to build rides. After doing that it'll be a lot more noticeable that you can cut out some of those stalls.

>> No.1567487

>>1567474
What this guy said. It's a tip that's worth repeating. There's no need to start off with giant coasters. Just build some modest rides until you have the income to support larger construction projects.
