Wouldn't call Jagged Alliance an rpg.
It's a tactical sim above all else.

Pretty much the best one around though,
especially with the 1.13 patch, but I recommend playing it vanilla first.
1.13 is gonna kick you in the balls even on the easiest possible settings. Shit's intense.

You've got a small team of individual characters all of whom gain experience from battles and training. Tactically it isn't much different from other turn based RPGs.
It stands out in the strategical aspect since you can coordinate several teams across the land, occupy strategic points and have limited control over militias.

AIM merc, Hitman, Wolf, Shadow, Red

Secondary team:
Ivan, Igor, Grunty, Trevor, Sidney

Somewhere mid-game I usually add a third squad, lead by Raider and Raven.
