/vr/

I'm doing this cassette thing as a project right now and I have the cassette cases all ready to go. Just gotta buy some ink and paper and we'll be in business.

I gotta question though: what kind of paper should I use for these covers?

I just use normal paper, once you put it inside the case you won't be able to tell, its the ink and/or gloss of the paper that really matters.

I have a HP photosmart inkjet printer so I'm not too worried about the ink.

I guess I should have asked a better question. What kind of gloss should I go for?

You gotta use HP photo paper if you've got an HP printer.

This is the paper I used for my cassette cases, and my printer is a Photosmart 5520, with the 564 cartridges. They turned out great! But you don't have to use the same exact stuff, just go to your local office supply store and see what glossy hp paper is on sale.

I'd also recommend getting a cheap paper reamer, it's a pain in the ass to cut out the covers with scissors.

I will be using semi-gloss paper.

I'm near ready to start printing covers too, I just need the covers first. All the links I have seen on coverproject are scattered across dropboxes and with few covers in each one. I'm mainly looking for pokemon covers with the gameboy logo on top like in the image. The ones I found don't have them.

Btw, the plastic won't crack if you dont try cutting the whole tab out (leave a mm or two). Or if you can get the "flat" tabs as opposed to the triangular or "+" shaped tabs.
Also, you really only need to remove 1 tab.
The foam comes from a set of adhesive foam letters I got for $1 at a hobby lobby. Its not necessary, but it makes sure that the games fit in the case snug, as some cases are larger than others.

Cassette cases are an alternative to DS cases. $0.10 at goodwill vs $1.50 online (without shipping). Also since DS cases no longer are being made with the GB slots in them, the prices are starting to go up. And no, gameboy games won't fit in a CD case.

Its not hard to do, the tabs can be removed with your fingers even, and its not like you cant still keep tapes in them afterwards.
They sit on a shelf, so they're not going to be "rattling around", and you will only see the inside when you go to take a game out.

I don't get it. When I was 8 I had your exact layout. I don't know any other 8-year-olds who keep games neatly aligned on a bookshelf.

My kid sister, 12, throws the Wii games in a drawer and just picks out the game she plays.

Making them neat like books is more for the aesthetic pleasure than anything.

>>1538000
>So if the pins just unscrew
Have you never seen a cassette case? Jesus man, yes you have to cut them out with pliers normally. However it doesn't leave "sharp" edges unless you have absolutely no idea what you're doing. Alternatively you could get cases that use a softer plastic, cases that use a "-" type tab instead of a triangular or "+" shaped tab ( to make removing them easier), or just get a hot knife and cut them off. If you're really worried about the back of your cart touching the spots (note I said "touching", as in they shouldn't really move around once inside), then you could cover them (the spots where the tabs were) with tape, or you could put your carts inside those plastic clam-shells like in >>1537128
Or the first few (closest to the camera) carts in >>1537215 if you need a different example of what I'm referring to.

Even if the edges were "sharp or jagged", the whole point of these is so that you can put them on a shelf, and not have to sort through all your games by hand to figure out what the game is. While still having a better appearance than just taping labels to the end of them. So they won't be moving around inside the cases enough to cause any damage. They sit, motionless, on a shelf, and when you grab them the very nature of the shape/way you open them, means that you will end up tilting the case in such a way that the cart won't be moving around much anyways. Anyone who owns cassettes (which should be about 98% of us) or who has come into contact with them (100% of us), should know that unless you purposefully shake it, the contents aren't going anywhere. Even if you open it upside down, the cart still wont come into contact with where the tabs were.
