This game is pure evil. This is a kids game? If kids played this they'd chuck it half way across the room due the high difficulty

When I was a kid we just got good instead of crying on the internet about how hard a game was.

Never played it, but the PS1 version was god-tier. Does Disney still make good games?

Shit, i remember this.
I wanted it so bad, but never got my hands on it and eventually ended up giving up hope.
I really should give it a try some day.

Mega Man isn't even hard

I was probably 9 or 10 when I got Quack Attack! for the Dreamcast. It was given to me along with the console itself. I had a blast.
Don't remember it being very hard actually. There was a construction site stage that was pretty hard tho.

Not really, they never did. This certainly wasn't among the "good" ones.

Quack Attack was a huge disappointment when it came out, bad platforming and terrible level design all over. It's characterization of Donald's world just feels soulless and low effort, and the music is straight up awful. You must've had very little exposure to good platformers back in the day to actually enjoy this turd.

It helps if you're a kid and simply enjoy everything you can grab.
I will never not find it good because I grew up with it and will never be able to judge it in an unbiased way.
However we will most certainly appreciate recommendations for platformers, not only for GBC but for consoles as well.

I liked it. It was different from the average fantasy world platformer. It was a lot more close to reality, it made it special. And I really enjoyed Donald's dance.

Virgin, Sega and Traveler's Tales for the first three, respectively. I've never played any LK game and I don't remember offhand who made Quackshot but considering it was pretty decent, I dought it was Disney Interactive.
The only reason that Disney games on NES didn't suck is because Capcom made them.

Despite being 11 when the game came out, I'd been playing for long enough to know shit when I saw it. My 7 year old brother played it a lot, so maybe it was just intended for even younger audiences than myself.

If you want to try a good game with Donald in it, Magical Quest 3 is the best we've gotten. Like the other entries in the series it's a bit short, but the platforming is tight and the design direction is great. Donald and Mickey don't control exactly the same when they differing costumes (and special powers) come into play, so there's a bit of replayability in that. Co-op is definitely the most fun way to play this.

Maui Mallard comes close second, and is all about Donald (starring as his alter egos Maui Mallard the armed detective and Cold Shadow the ninja). It has an incredibly rich setting, fantastic music and artwork. Plans were there for launching a sequel and a cartoon, but unfortunately due to corporate fuckery and poor reception it never happened. Overall it's a very different take on "Donald" that any fan should experience.

Donald Duck no mahou no boushi is another one worth checking out, although nowhere as good as the two above. The most interesting part is the non-linear part at the beginning, where you apply for various part time jobs with wildly differing gameplay to save up for a hat that Daisy wishes Donald to buy for her. The latter half of the game delivers fairly standard platforming, except for a certain stage with Mode 7 thrown in to spice things up.

Many will also suggest Quackshot, but I never enjoyed it very much and found the game tedious at best. Have a go at it yourself and make up your own opinion.

Quackshot was made by Sega AM8 (Sonic Team) in "collaboration" with Disney Interactive, as far as I know. Wouldn't surprise me if the only collaboration Disney provided was the license and story.

Yes, you're correct. Donald Duck's Magical Hat would be the translation.

Mid-game "spoiler" (as correctly as I remember it, it's been years since I played): Once you've gotten enough money to buy the hat, it's already been sold at the store. A wizard appears and says he'll get Donald the hat for helping him out with a task, but afterwards it's revealed that the wizard is actually a king from a faraway kingdom that's been turned into a magical hat by the evil Black Pete. Then they travel to the kingdom to defeat Pete and restore order. Completely crazy, really.

Donald is more popular in Japan and Europe than in his home country, as far as I know. The few Disney license games that ended up Japan only were mostly not very good, or got converted into other licenses for their Western releases.

Ah! Good that I remember! It's been 20something years since I've spoken Japanese regularly (spoke it as a kid cuz Japanese family, but don't speak it very well anymore and never learned to read it) so I'm happy to recall at least some of it.

>>1519682
If what >>1519714 says is true, Disney's only hand in the making of the game was drawing and animating sprites. This is likely why Disney games on newer consoles have been... let's say "complete and utter twattage." And that's being kind.

This game was great, too. Also had the bomb ass Map theme:

http://youtu.be/PNPV-ePvvQ8

As >>1519669 it was made by Capcom, so that's likely a large reason it was good.

I had a friend who had Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 2 for his GameBoy. I remember it being pretty damn good, and challenging, but not overly so. It had a good combo of puzzles, action, etc. You couldn't jump either, which I think was rare at the time, since most people were used to Mario Bros, Mega Man, Sonic, etc.
