Can we have a thread about these guys? What's your fave game by them?

They're not my favorite developer, but I got a lot of respect for them. Fave game by them would be Pac-Man World

Quest of Ki > Tower of Druaga

yes I realise it wasn't developed by Namco but its from the same series so fuck you

Not my favourite games but the Time Crisis series is probably one of the superior light gun based series. Sadly the amount of time you get in each scenario gets to much the further you get into the series. 2 was probabl the best on balance.

I never really thought Namco transitioned to console development very well. I don't really care for much of anything else from them besides the Tales of series.

Or transitioned to 3D games, I should say. Really don't care for any of their 3D games, besides those 3D Tales of games.

I'd probably say the Point Blank series, if we're keeping it retro. I dunno. I just find the whole "shooting gallery" aspect of the game fun as hell.

The Ace Combat series hands down.

My first PS game, and still my favorite Tales.
Blame it on nostalgia, I don't really care.

They're one of those devs, like Psygnosis, that flourished in Gen 5, and struck gold with their arcade ports.
Super-duper honourable mentions for Tekken 3, Soul Blade, Klonoa, and the Ridge Racers, but I favour Point Blank.
GCON45 was the bestest home lightgun at the time, and Point Blank was both uber-fun in single player, and an insanely good party-game.

Genpei Toumaden is a really cool game. I really wish it had taken off as its own series but it only got one crappy PCE sequel that focused on the weakest aspect of the original before being forgotten. Getsufuu Maden was good too, but not nearly as memorable IMO.

I don't know if it was the first light gun game to introduce a dodging mechanic or not, but it was certainly the first time I had ever seen something like that, and it's such a fun and elegant mechanic. Definitely my favorite light gun series of all time.

Tales of Eternia is my favorite as far as their /vr/ related games goes, and is still one of my favorites in the series as well (and I honestly love the series on the whole). Helps that even all these years later it's still fun to sit down and play, due to having held up well mechanic-wise.

>>1516818
I still find it funny that a game in that series was (to my knowledge) only officially brought over once, and only as part of a Namco Collection.

Out of curiosity, since I've been meaning to put some good effort into Destiny, how soon into the game can one acquire the technical ring? I'm assuming that like Phantasia PSX after it, you still need to equip something like that to use manual mode.

That's right. If I remember correctly, you can get the first one in the temple where Philia joins you.
You can also find a Channeling really early, if you want to play the game with a bro.

Thanks. Currently emulating the game via PSP due to the price, but if the game winds up being really fun in general getting manual mode (got really tired of Stahn always running backwards after attacking, the way Cless does early in Phantasia until you get the technical ring a good four-ten hours into the game) I might consider picking up an actual copy. Do love me some Tales co-op, and I'm rather surprised that beyond the Mana series and a few stand alone games here or there, not a lot of JRPGs have bothered with allowing for co-op as an option.

I only like them up to the fourth game. Not a fan of how melodramatic and formulaic they stated to get from 5 onward.
