I threw a boomerang once and it didn't come back. I was really disappointed, then years later it occurred to me that I'm left-handed and it was probably designed to be thrown with the right.

I had a crappy, probably ornamental boomerang way back around elementary or middle school. It took a good number of tries throwing the thing in the park before I could throw it hard enough to come back to me.

I can't remember if it actually hit me on its way back or if I was just super worried that it would and then ran out of the way. Either way, it broke either that afternoon or the next.

The really annoying thing is that the returning boomerangs are made purely for sports, it's basically aboriginal kite flying. Boomerangs like pic related are the real hunting shit, and they're supposed to fly straight at the target.

If you're going to make something that hits the target and still comes back to the player, just make whatever projectile you want and put magic on it.

A bullet is the projectile that leaves the gun. The casing, primer, and powder are what launches it. A cartridge is the whole shebang of the case, primer, powder, and bullet. YMMV depending on if you're dealing with caseless ammo, gyrojet, shotguns, or whatever.

This. Besides, if you throw a returning boomerang too hard (i.e., you're trying to kill something with it), it won't hit the target, it'll just fly straight up and stall out like a paper airplane. You can't just throw it with all your might and it'll come whistling back to you; it's actually pretty difficult to throw a boomerang, and takes a lot of practice.

It's just that devs don't really care about logic or realism, because it could make the gameplay "less interesting" for a lot of people. If you really always would have to run behind the boomerang and collect it again and again, this would be too frustrating for many. A lot of the times, I wonder about the reverse sides of things. If you have a setting where dragons come and plunder towns that have wealth, how come almost no town of wealth sufficient to attract a dragon has any sort of defenses against a dragon attack?

How about a game where rather than money, you just get the creature's dead, lifeless body as a reward? You can then sell it to a poacher in a town or learn to poach it yourself for its refined parts such as pelts, meat, bones/teeth etc (that sell for more money than the bodies themselves do). Lufia II did something like this IIRC. It's been a very, very long time since I've played Lufia II.
Either way, I've played games that did similar things to what I describe.

I've played a few games where monsters drop items that can be sold for money, and IMO it's kind of annoying. I'd rather just cut out the middleman and have the monsters drop money.

So I guess that's why enemies drop money in RPG's. They don't want to annoy you with the chore of having to sell the monster's parts, instead they just sort of imply it to be happening.
