ITT: The first game you ever bought with your own cash

>> No.1515912

I *think* Mortal Kombat 3, not sure.

I specifically remember buying the Brady Games strategy guide for Final Fantasy 7 because I worked for a day at my dad's restaurant.

Silly question OP. Most people here either still get a monthly allowance or emulate.

Got this a few days after Christmas 1997 after being blown away by the PS1, effectively ending the 16-bit era for me. I'm pretty sure this was the first game I ever bought because I don't recall buying any Genesis games ever.

It was the half life bundle on steam, and only because I really like the series. Never bought any original games because living in Brazil is suffering.

The first game I clearly remember going out by myself to buy was Chrono Cross, but I remember buying several NES and Genesis games before that, just can't remember specifics.

If we're talking job money then it was this, I think. And a GBA SP.

Not retro, I know, but you're the one who asked. I didn't even get a job until I was 19. I had to concentrate on school, couldn't drive, and lived in the middle of BFE. That shitty telemarketing job got me games and a system I still keep close to this day.

Did the same thing when I got my current job years ago - my first check went to a DS Lite and New SMB.

I think it was Super Smash Bros.

Money well spent. Hundreds of hours were played with friends and family.

First one I remember forking over cash for was this for SNES for 10 bucks from someone at school. He was a nasty fat fucker and it had to be cleaned and still didn't run great, but hey, I LOVED this game.

>> No.1516694

megaman legends. also, unrelated but for the longest time i thought the thing on the cover of the first gran turismo was a bodybag

>> No.1516709

With my own money? shit, uh....
well I partially funded quite a few of my games as a kid, but the first 100% paid for would probably either be a GBC, GBA, or xbox game.
only one I can think of right now was Links Awakening for $15 used at a gamestop about 7-ish years ago. Up until then, I thought the only zelda GB games were the oracles, which I got together for xmas one year.

Either this or R. C. Pro Am.

>> No.1516886

I really have no idea. I remember in, I guess 1993, I got some Christmas money but not Jurassic Park for SNES, so I took the money and bought the game. Does that count?

Rollergames was one of the first games I bought too, probably because it was the cheapest game they had. I remember being 25 cents short but somebody in line paid it for me.
