Ninja Gaiden (NES) is my favoritegame. It's difficulty, extremely fluid controls and the fact that is an action packed really fun side-scroller make it really enjoyable for me. I have yet to find a similar game that can top it, do you have any contender?

Give Shatterhand, Vice: Project Doom, Power Blade and Blue Shadow/Kage/Shadow of the Ninja a go if you haven't already played them.

Y'know what, OP? I fucking well don't.

It pushed my shit in hard as a kid, and I didn't go back to it for years. Since then, it's become my most played.

The pace is what sets it apart from most other games. If the entire game were nothing but 3-2, it wouldn't have been horrible; but add in things like wall-jumping and it's just damn well perfect.

Yeah I played those games, they're great but pale in comparisson to Ninja Gaiden in my opinion. I'd like to know if there's a better game of the kind out there that I don't know, or if we should crown Ninja Gaiden as the king. Thanks for your contribution though.

Same here, I traded my Mario cartridge for Ninja Gaiden to a friend in school and it used to drive me nuts as a kid too. But once you get a little bit of skill you appreciate the game as a masterpiece.

Ninja Gaiden is also my favorite game of all time. Not only for those reasons but also because of the excellent (best on NES, imo) music and the cutscenes gave it a visual appeal no other console game in the West had at the time. I'd try so hard to draw in the style of this game as a kid and I had no idea what animu was.

It was difficult as all hell but with such great music, art and story I gave it my best. The same couldn't be said for the dozens of NES games I gave up on that were hard but had no such incentives to keep me going.

Ninja Gaiden is the best. Its funny that the only things the original arcade has in common are the difficulty and great music. Its a slow, choppy beat em up.

Completely agree with you. The cutscenes were amazing and the music it's just marvelous. This track still gets me all pumped up.

It is my favorite game for the same reasons, OP. I would go so far as to say it is my favorite game of all time. I have yet to find anything that can really top it :/

I can't think of a game that does what Ninja Gaiden does better, off the top of my head.

Not my favorite game ever but probably in my top 5 NES games.

You didn't mention how awesome the music is.

For shame.

It's not my favourite game, but it's one of the 3 games I'd give 10/10.

The wall-sticking gimmick is kinda stupid and often works against you. And the boss music is shit.

Other than that, 9.9/10 it's ok.

The Strider games are fucking awesome and if you like Ninja Gaiden you should definitely play them, I would stay away from the NES port though.

The best Ninja Gaiden clone is Batman.

As someone with both the Sega and NES versions of this game I feel I should weigh in with my two cents here:

Don't even consider the NES port. Even if you already have an NES and do not have a Genesis it would still be much more worth it to you to buy the Genesis specifically for Strider. The NES port is an abomination.

Fuck yes. I also own this cartridge and is the only one I've find that's close enough to Ninja Gaiden, the pacing is not as dynamic, but the music is also god-tier.

Kabuki Quantum Fighter is a pretty fun game, and one of the few NES games that actually has realistic momentum when jumping (i.e., if you jump while accelerated by a conveyer belt, you jump farther)

Ninja Gaiden is right up there with Batman the video game for me on the NES. Actually, I like any game that gets along with my Advantage stick but the challenge those offer could not be overcome without my stick.

>> No.1515972

Great thing about Ninja Gaiden is how the difficulty is managed. At first it seems the game is just random no matter what you do you always will get hit. But in time you realize the timings of actions and enemies can be mastered. In other words, there is a large degree of skill that can affect your success. The game dares you to master it by giving you an unlimited stock of continues. And the ultimate slap in the face test is when it sends you back to 6-1 after losing to the last boss. I found it extremely annoying at first, but when you think about it.... By the time I learned how to kill the last boss, I had fully mastered all of level 6, I truly felt like a Ninja Gaiden.

The best feeling is after many attempts to beat the game. By the time you are able to, you will also be able to reset the game and go through it MUCH SMOOTHER...

6-1 gets too much shit. It's not even that hard. The level before where you climb that green tower before Malth was tougher imo.
>jetpack ninjas throwing shurikens

I can do it now with hardly getting it, but as a kid it wrecked me.
