LIM has worked really well for me when the majority of your guests like the high intensity/excitement rides, and they'll pay full coaster prices as a bonus.

It's a bit tricking if you have stations on very different height levels though. you'll have to use breaks right at the beginning of the top most station so the train to keep the speed somewhat manageable

Reposting because I really want to find this map

I'm trying to find a huge scenario that I used to enjoy playing on.

It was a large wooded area with a river running through it. I'm not sure if I remember correctly but I think it had something to do with Seattle. On one of the far sides of the map there was a harbor or shipping area of sorts.

The closest thing I've found to it is Lunatim's LunaLand, near the bottom of this page: http://www.lunatim.com/lunaland/2parks/2parks.htm[1] Pratt falls on the same page also reminds me of it a little bit.

The landscape was similar to the map above in that it was very fluid. I'm not sure what I mean by that except that the terrain looked reasonable and not like somebody went nuts with the hill tool.

I doubt anybody will be able to figure out what map this is with my cryptic description but on the off chance one of you wizards has what I'm looking for I had to try.

I'm trying to thing of other descriptors for it.

Theme Park World did the exact same thing: gutted the mechanics that made it enthralling for a nice novelty.

Given that both games had the originals as their base, you gotta' wonder how that happens.

Sure, if they built the game from scratch and it didn't work out, but you had this neat first-person schtick, fair enough.

The objective is to have 2600 guests in the park. There have not even been that many guests on the map in total and i was only focused on attracting more people by bulding as much as possible. There is not enough time to build a convoluted system of paths to keep people inside a few minutes longer. If the game would let you build stuff while paused i could have tried it but it would not have won the scenario anyway. My paths now remind me more of roads in SimCity.

he is very right about this design, they'll shell out 4 bucks easy to ride it. and they cost only 700 bucks with the pathways as see in the picture.

my strategy was this to build a long path, build four of these, pause the game, change the prices, inspection time to 10 minutes, and set a mechanic to patrol the area, and repeat.

it also helped me to have longer queue lines for the rides near the main entrance so you would have more people in line instead of crowding the walkways.

Also i don't know if this helped or not but with advertising i only did two weeks at a time, and as soon as they where up i found repeat all over again but with a different ride.

I know theyre based in reality, but why even include a powered launch option for the corkscrew coaster if it can only clear a 15ft hill? The usefulness of it is very limited and designers will almost always end up using a reverse incline.

Further, clearly possible designs are omitted because of the limitations imposed. You can't make a powered launch coaster with corkscrews or barrel rolls at all. Even an approximation of the redesign of Vertical Velocity is impossible.

Block section racers are very tricky and you're better off doing continuous circuit, or lowering the amount of trains so they don't have to stop and wait at block brakes.

The problem with the block sectioning isnt them getting stopped, but them all being loaded behind the first station instead of spread evenly between the stations. Continuous circuit limits you to the number of trains that will fit in one station, though, and they all start in the first station. Perhaps I'll just limit it to one train per parallel, set continuous circuit, and enable synchronization after the trains are distributed.

I think I'm done messing around with multi-station coasters. The benefits don't seem to be particularly good for a proper coaster as the length inflates the intensity (though in the attached I could probably do better if I gave up on the god damn corkscrews). It is, however, rather effective for scammy designs that have no/few inversions or big hills and simply stack the excitement bonuses from tracks passing each other. I wanted to add the scenario I just made

You just bought a national park from some hippies who never bathed and smell highly of marijuana. Being the hippies that they are, the park hasn't been maintained well, and is overgrown with plant life, and animal life.

Woodstock is also coming in 6 years, and you want to cram as many smelly hippies in your park as possible.

But not all as it seems at the Hippie National Park, it seems you can't remove any of the trees because MUH FEELS.

Also there seems to be a hole that is surrounded by flames thats meant for some kind of reason.

DO YOU HAVE THE POWER TO CATER TO SMELLY HIPPIES?

Lots of experience. Some helpful tips:

-Scenery around the station boosts excitement a lot
-Rides surronding also help
-Length of the ride is a big factor! Which is why this particular coaster is sub-10, my 10k+ feet coasters are usually around 11
-Generally, coasters that are very close, but not over, 10 INTENSITY will have higher excitement.

Other than that, practice makes perfect.

I'm trying to make a really comfy park but I find that many of my older rides are unpopular and break down a lot. I've tried the trick of closing them, deleting a piece of track, putting It back and then reopening it but its doesn’t seem to help all that much. Any suggestions?

Lower the price and make sure it hardly ever breaks down. Add shops and loos near the ride to entice your guests in that area. They will go on all rides, and never actively avoid a ride (unless its 'I'm not paying that much to go n X'). But if there's a better deal going, guests will go for it.

TL;DR make a nice area around the ride and make it dirt cheap.

Anyways i didn't really play until we moved that next summer and there where no neighborhood kids, so I getting a little board with mega man x, tried it, loved it, and pretty much played it everyday for the whole summer.

When I go to Cedar Point, I go on the Blue Streak first. It's this little wooden coaster with tons of airtime. It's the perfect warm-up ride because every ride feels smooth in comparison. I'm still a big coaster junkie.

A good thing to note is that on larger parks (1500+ guests), a new, high excitement coaster will get a full line almost immediately. We're talking hundreds in line. It's interesting to see people flock to a new ride, so if you want a bunch of people to go somwhere, build a good hyper-twister or giga there.
This park was mainly to see what I could do. Managing a park this size is a big challenge. You have to be careful to avoid guest trapping, staff must be monitored, and price management requires constant vigilance. And every now and then something happens that's completely expected. You'll get a ride that stops working (Looking at you, backwards ferris wheels), or your handymen aren't patrolling an area and it fills up with litter.

Approx stats because I'm on a different computer:

Delusionarium (looping roller coaster):
Excitement: 7.50
Intensity: 7.80
Just under 2 minutes long.

Fury Cutter (Twister Roller Coaster):
Excitement: 9.50
Intensity: 9.50
Most likely 2:20 seconds based on data.

And despite Delusionarium being rather new, one of my older coasters (Noose, >>1523241) is still more popular, even with an intensity of 10.50.

I think I'm about done. I just want to ask what you lot think of the challenge I'm thinking of posing.

A modestly sized park after buying the islands, entrance admission scheme, most stuff research-gated, and a goal of getting a particularly large number of guests in the park (no time pressure, though).

What might be a reasonable challenge for guest count? It's a 100x100 map, around a third is land, and almost all of the water is usable, though I think for aesthetic reasons it would be better if the player didnt have to cover the entire god damn ocean - just a few coasters and misc. Maybe 2500?

Cedar Point is a fucking huge park. I suppose one of us could try and make an approximation of the park but it would be hard. That would be a fun collaborative project though. We could look up the park on Google maps and get the landscape that way.
>>1529440
I kind of wanted to go into roller coaster designing when I was younger. My 6th grade science class did a project on rollercoasters and we took the class to Cedar Point at the end of the year. But math isn't really my thing so I knew I wasn't going to be able to do it. I'm familiar with track design and coaster manufacturers but the actual mechanics of it? Not really.

>> No.1530020

Just general ideology/methodology. I'm a physics student with a significant interest in software engineering and am planning a simplish coaster designer/analyzer program as a portfolio project. I already have an idea of how to implement it but I'd like more knowledge on actually designing a coaster.

Actually, regarding the implementation, would a simple tick-by-tick simulation be accurate enough? I would prefer not to have to dynamically solve coupled differential equations for each segment of the coaster, though I do intend to dabble in computational physics.

>> No.1530047

>>1530020
What aspect specifically? It's a really broad topic and I could go on for ages. Are you interested in how they design a layout, calculate the forces, create the system for operating the trains, etc
Somebody made a really detailed coaster in Excel/Autocad that I'm trying to find (I thought Phyter made it but I'm not sure) that would really interest you. It's killing me that I can't find it but I'm pretty sure it's somewhere on the Nolimits-Exchange forums. He designed a layout and had it calculate the speed and forces alongeach segment

>> No.1530063

>>1530047
Calculation, I'm good on, though I'll need to think a bit more to account for rotational effects in non-heartline rolls. Layout, yes. How did he enter a layout into excel? My plan was to define the coaster as a series of splines - parametric equations for three dimensions and angle of rotation.

>> No.1530112

>>1530063
Not sure, I might make a post later to see if anyone is able to find it.
I don't know too much about the area you're interested in (figures), but I think I get what you're saying. Think of the track layout as a line made up of a bunch of different slopes and equations. For example, a simple hill would be made of two/three parabolas. The entrance/exit would need to be wide to account for the speed but the crest of the hill can be tight. Then like you said you can have equations for the three dimensions to determine the position of the track and use angle of rotation to bank it around the heartline. Coasters are either force-based designed or geometrically-designed depending on the company. Geometric would be far easier and it's the way I mentioned with the multiple equations.

Anyway, after that I saved up and got myself the boxed copy of the first game in 1999, then picked up the expansion in maybe 2001 from someone's friend who lived in a trailer and had bought it but not the base game, then I lost those disks in a move, then I got another copy in a box of cereal of all things.
