Let's talk retro vidya codes. No, not things like Game Genie...I mean actual tricks and secrets the player can do that can be done with just the game and nothing else. Bonus points if they're useful.

Here's the thing though. Let's not look anything up. Let's just see how much you guys know straight-up. I'll go ahead and list the obvious ones.

>Hold A and press Start after getting a game over in Super Mario Bros to continue from the world you died in
>Press Up, Down, Left, and then Right on the Sonic the Hedgehog title screen. Then hold A and press start to access the level select.
>Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start.

A kid in Jr High once told me that he got past that annoying guard kid at the beginning of Ocarina of Time by slowly lifting his cartridge out

The other night, I was playing BattleTanx 2, and I'm not sure what I did exactly (maybe this always happens, I haven't played it in a long time) but I used a nuke in Deathmatch mode on that Highway/Train level, and got a weird message from the game programmers at the bottom of the screen

That actually does work. It's how I've done a no-Kokiri-Sword playthrough before. But I've heard it can actually be hazardous to your cart so I should probably use one of the other methods next time I try it.

Just off the tops of our heads?

Ok, I mentioned this one a few days ago in a different passwords/codes thread, but the last password in Flying Scrolls is "BAAA."

U, RR, DDD, LLLL, B, A, (Select for 2 Player version), Start in TMNT 2 The Arcade Game on NES gives you either 10 lives, level select, or both, I forget which. Code must be entered on the main screen before the intro replays.

Up + A + B (I think?) on second controller during the pause screen kills you in Super Mario 2. Told a friend to get to Wart on his last life, with no continues, hit him 5 times and then do this trick for an "ending you won't forget." Technically, it wasn't a lie.

I think it's Y, A, Select, A, Down, L, A, Down, or something. Y'know, using the controller to spell out words.

Speaking of...

Skitchin'. Fun little title. It's like Road Rash, but instead of riding riceburning crotch rockets, you're rollerblading, and you can hitch a ride off the back of cars and shit.

See, there's this warning title that pops up on boot; what you do is, you press B, A, D(own) A, S(tart), S(tart) on that warning screen. You'll know it works when you hear some shitty cartoony sound effect.

That shit's just the master code, though.

Now, you get to enter some passwords at the main menu. Here are the ones that I remember:

MONEY gets you five grand.
ARMOR gets you the best gear for your pansy-ass skater.
SPEED gives you three nitro boosts. I dunno why you'd want these, though, since you could just go for the following code.
THRASH gives you three of the best weapons in the game: a baseball bat, a cattle prod, and... fuck, I dunno. Maybe it's nunchaku. I dunno. It's been too long.

I remember a few from my sega megadrive days. These are what I used daily. Sorry OP for using one of the same.

Sonic The Hedgehog: (At the title screen):
Up, Down, Left, Right, A start for level select
Up, C, Down, C, Left, C, Right, C, Hold A and start until you see sonic in the level for debug mode

Sonic The Hedgehog 2:
This will enable level select, super sonic and debug mode:

Go to the options screen and highlight sound select. Then play 19, 65, 09, 17, press start.
Wait for titlescreen and Hold A and Start for level select.

Once in level select, go to sound playback (can't remember the name) and enter the same sequence again: 19, 65, 09, 17

Now enter 04, 01, 02, 06 for super sonic

Then enter 01, 09, 09, 02, 01, 01, 02, 04 - Hold A and Start on whichever level you want for super sonic and debug mode.

Mortal Kombat:
At the giant wall of text during the intro, press A, B, A, C, A, B, B to enable blood.
At the menu with "game start" and options, highlight options and enter Down, Up, Left, Left, A, Right, Down

A new menu should appear with "Cheat Enabled", allowing you to apply various cheats/switches.

Mortal Kombat Two:
At the mode select screen, go to options, then highlight DONE.
Press Left, Down, Left, Right, Down, Right, Left, Left, Right, Right.
