Speaking of which, what are some wads that really try to make you feel like you are making a journey from fairly normal environment into the Hell itself? With gradual environment changes, cool and creepy Hell vistas - and good bossfight to finish it, if possible.

It was kinda cool when it was new, but frequent, questionable updates, a fuckwad of an author, and annoying fanboyism, ruined a lot of it's appeal.

I mean, I think it's pretty cool, it showed me Doom could do things I never thought it could do, but it had multiple multiple flaws, many that never got corrected or addressed (like the jam firehose).

I mean, yeah, I like the idea of a rifle for Doom, one with detachable magazines, (ironsight are optional, but I think it's pretty cool that it was done when it was new), and the first time around, I found the fatalities to be really fucking crunk, but... it just wears out it's welcome.

It's... it's not very hard.

Get some sort of "Free Youtube Downloader", don't rush through the installer, uncheck the options for "addons" and "toolbars" and shit, it's rubbish. Then, find the tracks you're looking for on YouTube, download them, then open Slade, make a new .wad, import the files into it, give them the proper names (the Running From Evil.mp3 should have the name d_runnin, and so on), and that should be it.

I'm having a lot of fun with it (just beat the first 3 episodes of Doom on Full Ultra Violence (BD equivalent to UV), only saving at the start of each level) today and I'm gonna move on to Doom 2. Like some other guys have said the kick is really useful, especially since you have to reload now and pinkies seem to love jumping out at me when I'm reloading. The free-aiming is pretty cool too and I like regaining small amounts of health from the fatalities. Using guys as human shields is fun too but doesn't happen often. Throwing lost souls is super fun. I also like the way the BFG was changed so that it actually works how it looks like it works. Lastly I liked the replacement of invisibility powerups with imprisoned marines that you could rescue if you could free them before they were executed (monsters attack them once they've seen you and prioritise prisoners over you provided they can see the prisoner).

Generally it feels like an early-2000s FPS, after they invented free-aiming mouselook, clips and reloading but before they invented regenerating health and cover systems. So if you want to transform Doom into one of those, Brutal Doom will do it very well.

Well I know a lot more secrets than before, although I love doom I never really went as far as to find all the secrets. I'll have to read more into the book tonight, there's about 200 pages and I'm curious what fills it besides maps and common knowledge. There's no reason. Most of them were terrible maps, they weren't selected for quality. And they're all terrible 1994 maps to boot. There is one in the vr wad pastebin though.

If you want to play lots of maps, and have already played all the 100 best from 10 years of Doom and the Cacoward winners, just pop on over to idgames and play the ones with the highest rating that seem like you'd be interested in them. Or even just hit random until you find one that sounds like you'd like it. There are tons of quality maps that aren't well known and have never received accolades on idgames.

You always run for cover when fighting Arch-Viles, that's what makes them stand out particularly from all the other enemies, they just have to -see- you to light you up like a Christmas tree.

You can dodge and dance (and jump and crouch in sourceports) to dodge gunfire, fireballs and rockets, but if you don't actually break their line of sight, they'll flash fry you, and then you have to keep making sure they don't undo your kills, they're a constant threat when they've become aware of you.

Goddamn they're such a fucking great monster, they're intimidating as hell, dangerous, and unusual. Adrian, Sandy and Bobby really did that monster perfectly.

The only real problem I've noticed with Oblige is that that some enemies get their AI fucked up, probably due to being placed within a wall or floor or something. This seems to happen at least once at large slaughtermaps, particularly to arachnotrons.

This Spider Mastermind was completely harmless even though it was out in the open. I don't know what causes it but its not uncommon enough to just shrug off.

It's because the Spider Mastermind has the biggest hitbox/collisionbox in the entire game, and if a monster is in a smaller space than it should be, it can't do anything, like if the ceiling is too short. Arachnotrons have pretty big hitboxes too, so you can't cram them in confined spaces.

Motley Crüe was generally considered a glam metal band who were more concerned with making money and banging chicks than writing fast heavy ass music. I'll say "generally considered" because I'm assuming I'm more open minded musically than some of the id guys were in 1993. (It seems like Romero and Adrian were the guys mostly "in charge" of directing Bobby on music direction, so I'm making a lot of judgements based on what I think they might have thought at the time. that's the general consensus, up to MAP07 everything got done decently and then it went downhill because of "HEY LOOK SANDY MAPPED LIKE DIS, AMIRITE GUYS?!?". The secret levels are great.
