If anybody says this wasn't the greatest Spyro game they are a liar.

>implying anybody would argue about spyro

Pic related

>> No.1494042

I don't think there's anyone that would dispute that.

The only contentious question in Spyro is which was worse: Enter the Dragonfly or A Hero's Tail?

>> No.1494052

It is more just a big step down from Ripto's Rage. That doesn't make it bad at all though.

>> No.1494053

OP here, I didn't think Enter the Dragonfly was TERRIBLE. It surely wasn't as good as the original trilogy, but it was still pretty stupid. Never played a hero's tail

At least Hero's Tail was playable without constantly having to load all the damn time. Still nowhere near as good as the original three.

>>1494032
I'd say it tried to do a bit too much and as such suffers a bit for it, but that by no means makes it a bad game. Kind of like Crash Bandicoot Warped in that aspect.

Posting some Spyro related videos on the off chance people might not have seen them.

These look pretty decent, but I didn't play them. The ones that came after are true hell. Still, Spyro 3 was the best for me.

Ah, good times.

>> No.1494240

Yep, it's the best. I especially love the first home world, reminds me of when I first started the game, on a Sunday morning.
>>1494042
I actually liked A Hero's Tail, I thought it went back to a style more like the 1st game, the 3rd game had started to have a bigger focus on mini games, which is something I've seen people complain about Year of the Dragon for. Enter The Dragonfly's framerate hurts my head.

It was a good game, but I like the first two more.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love the 3 of them equally, but for different reasons.

That said, I don't think there's much to put this one above the others:

>rushed for release in 2000, glitchfest
>Greatest Hits edition still glitchfest
>Agent 9 gameplay is less than perfect
>the distribution for partner quests is a bit odd
>final boss and true final boss are anti-climactic, not as awesome as the Ripto fight

That being said, I could make a list for the other 2 titles. Ripto's Rage may not have as many glitches, but the double jump alone breaks it in half, for example.

>> No.1494763

>>1494757
What's glitchy about the Greatest Hits version? I know there's the swim in air glitch but that's in all of the games and that'll never trigger unless you're trying to make it trigger.

>> No.1494780

>>1494763

The only glitch they bothered to fix was the Speedway glitch (it would make it impossible to get an Egg, thus no 100% for ya). Aside from that, the same stuff as in the original:

>abusing the Sparx teleportation to walk underwater and under lava
>glide on top of the partner portals to access them without paying
>you can skip a big portion of Cloud Spires by gliding into a random wall
>can stand still on a boost pad in some missions, and then grab the skateboard to have your fuel to the max

Enter The Dragonfly was one of the worst games I have ever played. Empty, lifeless levels, atrocious controls, almost consistent single digit framerates and impossibly ugly production design.

Seriously, the framerate was so bad that it actually gave some kid an epileptic seziure. An impossibly terrible title.

Anyway, back to /vr/.

>> No.1495297

Enter the Dragon is probably the best in terms of content, but Ripto's Rage had the best levels. You really got a sense that each level was it's own self-contained world. It was also comfy as shit.

No, the order is 2>3>1.

3 has too many gimmicky play styles, but the core Spyro gameplay is amazing. 2 is just pure good Spyro gameplay.

I don't think anyone really liked Agent Nine's gameplay, at the very least not beyond his actual full level, but considering that after Spyro 3, Insomniac started on Ratchet and Clank, I'm rather glad they kind of got their initial, clunky attempts with that sort of third person/first person shooting out of the way with a side character, rather than the first Ratchet game feeling anything as clunky as Agent Nine did in Year of the Dragon.

As far as side characters go I thought Sheila and Sergeant Byrd were at the very least decent, even if still a bit gimmicky.

That UFO controls like shit. inb4 "git gud", I have beaten that boss multiple times, and most of the challenge comes from trying to aim the damn thing.

The 3 phase battle in Ripto's Arena was way better, and instead they let you fly and superflame at the same time without making it broken. Also, you can't beat that opera.

I still kinda give Year of the Dragon a break because I know it was rushed as fuck, and considering all things it was still pretty good.
