Monster World IV and Popful Mail are similar games, really. And have a similar problem; you move super fast and lose all your life in seconds unless you play super methodically, which doesn't suit the controls at all. Castlevania they aren't. They both also have great graphics and music.

Yes, but the team existed long before then at Atlus, as they under Kamitani developed Princess Crown in 1997, which is retro. While Odin Sphere and Muramasa aren't classic games, they still have the Retro Spirit. Dragon's Crown was also meant to follow up to PC a few years later, but hardware limitations and costs held it back.
