What retrogame made you say "it's impossible to beat" for the first time?

For me, Captain Comic, I was about 5 years old

Scorcher.

As a matter of fact I still can't beat the last level. Even the second-to-last level is borderline impossible.

I remember thinking that for the first Mega Man.

Even if you savescum, your timing for jumping and shooting for the second to last boss have to be retardedly precise. I ended up abusing the start menu glitch to get past him. MM2 is a million times easier but 3 picked up the difficulty again.

I've enjoyed Castlevania for a long time.
Played the first one since I was 5. Only managed to beat it when I was 19 years old. It was the best feeling ever.

After feeling confident enough, I decided to play Castlevania 3, surely if beat the first game I should be able to beat 3 with ease, I thought. Big mistake. Took me another 3 years. Only managed to beat it like a month ago.

Not many games did. I played Nemesis 3 for the MSX when I was like 15 and was thoroughly convinced it was impossible. Running through the stages forward and then backwards with crazy hard shit throughout is just too much. I am sure some Jap guys have done it and kudos to them.

Metroid, for the NES.

I was probably about 6 or 7 when I played it, though. I don't think I ever even got to fight Kraid or Ridley, I just quite enjoyed exploring.

Gradius III, man.

I know now that it's not the hardest game or even the hardest shmup, but back in the day this game was legend among my friends and siblings because even the best of us could never finish it.

I finally conquered it a few years ago, only to be greeted by "Now challenge Hard Mode!"
