Best Doom wads for co-op? I forced read: asked nicely some friends into playing Doom with me, but our skill levels are all over the place. The stock episodes are ok, but ammo starts to get pretty scarce at 3 or more people, not to mention there's a lot of congestion on narrow hallway maps like E2M6.

So do the GCX threads, but no one complains about them (I think). There's an obvious bias against non-console games on /vr/, both through harsher official rules on non-console games and through the general populace's opinion.

I've tried using a sprites sheet generator called "stitches" but I was wondering what everyone else's work flow was for exporting and organizing sprites. People often post neatly organized, all encompassing sheets and I'm wondering how the high skilled folks do it here. Do you host your own version of this stitch app?


I really want to get to drawing and I'm wondering if there's an easier way of extracting the existing sprites. Also, are there any cyan backed templates hosted anywhere?

I don't see what people don't like about RGA2, but then again there are plenty of purists who scream if you so much as enable mouselook. I thought it was stupid and dumb at first, but it grew on me. It also got me to memorize Map20 of Alien Vendetta, haha. Fuck that stage.

I don't like Realguns because the voices are pretty lame, the guns feel very dinky and the sprite quality is something below low quality.

I don't mind the weapon selection itself, but the guns don't feel satisfying.
I also would prefer being able to take on larger enemies with tactics but bigger levels don't work at all unless you're playing Co-op because of how weak all the weaponry is.

Would prefer a STALKER weapon set with realism and shit. Also random artifacts that can be found that give bonuses or something but this wouldn't be practical to set up without anomalies and level design gets in the way of that

Also to comment on the Doom purists statement I don't think any of them are really here.
Doom's /vr/ community is very modding friendly.

Eh. I don't use voices, the guns don't really feel dinky to me and the rips... well, I'll definitely give you that. The latest RGA2 Refined is a massive improvement over something like RGH or vanilla RGA2. RGH feels like shooting paper targets, no satisfaction of emptying a whole mag into a mancubus' gut.

There's just something about the using a SPAS-12, a Deagle, or a full-auto FAL to cave in a Baron's face. The F2000 with extended mags is a meatgrinder too.

When you first start off yeah, you'll feel pretty weak. Once you start upgrading yourself and guns they feel a lot more powerful. Even to the point where you feel OP for how much damage you can actually do. Those incendiary grenades, man.

I know it's looked down on, but it's a guilty pleasure of mine.

I played one of those mods briefly and my favorite fun was Raffica. Pew-pew-pew. I think it's an okay mod if you do like modern tacticool guns but are tired of shooting boring terrorists in every game that features them ever, but quality is pretty low.

Weapons from boxes are random. You can get cool shit, but as you've found, you can also get shit.

Last time I played I ended with these weapons:

Storm Bolter combat pistol w/ sniper mod (I was a scout, this is usually what I had out)
Super shotgun w/ 2 Power (I was holding out for a nano pack to make a nano shrapnel SSG, never found one)
Demolition Ammo minigun
Missile launcher
The Biggest Fucking Nuclear Gun

Use Z&. In GZDoom some scripts don't work properly, like menus. Never experienced that error before though.

Doublecheck to see if any downloads got corrupted, if there's something wonky going on with your system, and if you have the load order down like the screenshot above.

I'd suggest you drop the elephant gun - as a Marine, an auto shotgun/double shotgun would be a better usage of your shells, and a Battle Rifle could provide similar accuracy while also taking advantage of your unique trait. You could probably get rid of one of those launchers and replace it with a plasma rifle, too. If you find a nuclear plasma rifle you'll actually get a buff for having two nuclear weapons and they'll both recharge faster. You can drop a weapon and pick it back up to reset its mods, which you might want to do with that BFG. As >>1484489 said, you really can't go wrong with a Ripper - it's a faster chainsaw that absorbs the life of your enemies. Gothic Armor is pretty good, but you'll definitely want to keep an eye out for an onyx mod to make it indestructable, since even 200 points won't last long with the amount of damage it absorbs, and armor bonuses are few and far between.

Okay, this really does seem like it's something else, because I see tons of things going wrong here. There's a crosshair, for one. No EXP must mean the monsters aren't being loaded properly.

Are you absolutely CERTAIN all wads are being loaded properly? How are you loading them? Do they say they're being loaded in the console? Are the filesizes suspicious? Something tells me that since you already downloaded them once and it messed up and even failed to boot the program, that something's just seriously messing with your system.

I get EXP when killing enemies in Z&, I prefer GZDoom however. Is this mod intended to be run in Z&?

Near perfect recreations of vanilla chex quest 1 and 2 in zdoom have been completed.

From the Readme in the rar (and the About in the wads themselves):


Files are meant to recreate a vanilla Chex Quest 1/2 experience as closely as possibly in ZDoom.
Files are to be run as pwads with Doom.wad (Ultimate Doom)
All resources are from the original Chex Quest 1&2 (chex.wad & chex2.wad) with a bunch of code copy+pasted from Chex3.wad and the ZDoom wiki.

Flemoidus Cycloptis Commonus which face to the wrong side when moving at the player have been kept in as that is vanilla behavior.

borrowed code from cutsman and whoever made the bee and flamethrower, i'll add the credits in the final version


it needs some polish but right now it's playable. pk7 runs on the newest zdoom (don't extract it)

also includes sweet ass flamethrower which replaces BFG

That's why I wasnt thinking of a randomizer, but rather someone with common sense and a good level design sense going back to all the maps and cleverly adding monsters to the existing maps. Make them a little harder too, throw in a couple chaingunners in E1 and gradually inserting the rest of the cast in E2 & 3 to give it that nice sense of progression. But it would probably require messing with the iwads or redistributing doom 1 maps as doom 2 maps which isnt exactly legal.

By design the Super Shotgun makes everything a lot easier due to ammo economy and firepower.

It takes shells and makes them 50% more potent.

Doom levels also had a lot of room to work with outside of E4M2 and E4M6 so Revenants won't be too bad except on those levels.

Doom 1 would be a NIGHTMARE with Archviles though, there's not a lot of cover outside of corners.

What this code does, checks for the Episode number, THEN based on the result from the ACS script, it jumps to a custom State where it deploys a spawner, said spawner places the desired monster, which based in this example is just a green and red colored Imp for The Shores of Hell and Inferno respectively.

I think you can even reinforce pistol start in vanilla via DeHackEd, not quite entirely sure, but you can try. Download Hell Grounds and have a look at the DEH file

A suggestion, feel free to take it or not: Make it so that each level at the end you end up with not enough ammo to make pistol starts more interesting and convenient to the player to get used to.

-Weapons are color coded for rarity: white is Common, light blue is crafted, purple is Exotic, green is Unique and orange is Legendary.
-The assault shotgun is simply semiautomatic, not rapidfiring. As far as I know the only rapidfire shotgun in the game is the Autoshotgun shotgun/double-shotgun + BBF
-Correct. There's a key you can bind to see the stats of your current armor. If I remember correctly the plasma-shielded vest gives great protection against bullets and melee but is useless against plasma and fire.
-Depends on the class. Marine goes well with high-power weapons, the Renegade loves some focussed double shotgun, the scout should get his hands on a storm combat pistol as fast as he can and the technician can have anything his little hearth desires.

That's an Armor modpack, it's a completely separate thing that you can carry apart from the weapon modpacks. It allows you to change the color of a normal or assembled armor, when you try to use it an on-screen prompt will tell you which buttons to press to apply it or change its mode.

I have a weird glitch in Doomrl arsenal. I started a level wearing steel boots with more steel boots in my inventory. I came across different boots, so I pressed the key to drop the steel boots I was wearing. That worked, but I also have to drop the steel boots in my inventory. For some stupid reason there's no way to drop inventory items, so I put those boots on and press the drop key again. Instead of falling to the ground, these steel boots get instantly picked up again when I drop them, even if I use noclip. Even using the takeitem command in the console does nothing.

Yeah the game doesn't let you physically drop them if you have them equipped and they're your last pair. once you pick them up again though, you can get rid of them by selecting it as the active item, hitting the Activate Item button, and following the prompt which says "hit Drop Current Weapon key to drop current item," instead of hitting the Activate Item button again to equip it

Regardless you have to cycle through boots whenever you find a new pair that you want/ regardless of if you want to directly equip it or if you want it as an alternative like antigrav for jumping. At least they don't explode like when you de-equip armor though

I updated pistol start options with native support for some mods; that is, they will be handled in game like vanilla is currently and not require double screen wipes to accomplish pistol starts/pistol starts on death. I also changed not_vanilla to not_supported since it's more accurate. Shouldn't require you to remove the not_vanilla cvar from your ini, but if you're having issues try that.

The dark parts are supposed to add a slight sense of fear because, "oh shit, it's hard to see," yet I tried to balance it out with hard lighting contrast. Once you got the main base, though, it became a lot brighter. Imagine as collecting the first key as turning on the power server for that area of the space station.

It's just one level of a supposed 3-4 level wad, plus it was my first, so I definitely don't expect MOTYAY or anything. Hell, I only hope people enjoy the experience.

Thanks, I wish I had some more constructive criticism than the first go who played it and pointed out all the tiny mis-aligned textures, as well as (in my opinion), nit-picking textures that I had used as the bottom of a chair, and repeating too much of a texture that was meant to be repeated, and having doors that were one increment too big to be perfect.

And at first I wasn't going for the 100% kills, so I shot the first Baron with the rocket launcher. Then I decided to try for the heck of it, and luckily the 4 barons summoned by activating the secret all lumped togheter in the bar fence thing when I went inside. Did you get it as a text in the middle of the screen after picking up a map? Then it's just the recipe for the assembly. You have to actually put the right modpacks on a viable weapon to upgrade it to use explosive ammo.
