So /vr/, I've been running into an odd problem and my Google Fu is failing me. Basically, I'm looking to sell my copy of Earthbound, but I can't delete any of the save files.

When I go to delete them from the game selection screen, I hit delete and it blinks and then just displays the files like normal. It doesn't actually delete 'em.

Anyone ran into a similar problem before and know of any fixes? It'll be impossible for me to sell it otherwise, since all three slots are used.

>> No.1471030

You aren't going to sell it for ≈200€, are you?

If you are, we won't help you.

God, no. Just whatever someone wants to buy it for, really. I just want to get rid of it and make some quick money since I haven't touched it in the last six years.

at the save selection screen, without turning off the power, slightly pull the cartridge up, if done enough times, it should fuck up the game and erase everything, alternatively , take it apart and remove the battery for a brief time

Unless you need the money, don't sell it.

It has all three save files used, meaning you can't do a new game. And I dunno, I'm hoping to shoot around the $60-$70 range or so.

I don't really know what's a reasonable, not-horribly-inflated price for the game. The thing's in damn good condition.

>> No.1471091

>>1471082
Honestly, Earthbound probably isn't worth much more than 40$ in terms of rarity. People have just inflated the fuck out of the value over the years.

The solution here is to sell it to whoever will take it here and then they can do >>1471061 on their own risk.

You'll need to open it up. There's a chip on the upper right corner. Apply a liberal amount of solder to the 4th connector on the bottom and bridge it to the chip below that.

Should wipe the save data out.

>> No.1471109

Depending on where you live you might be able to find a good electronic store and request them to remove the battery and put it back in. That would clear all the data and should cost you much.

>> No.1471117

Unscrew the case and pop out the battery for five minutes. This will completely blank the SRAM. You should then test it again to see if the problem persists.

Be sure to inform the buyer of the problem.

I live in the middle of Missouri, so those chances are up in the air. I'll look into that, though.

>>1471117

Anything special I try to avoid when I do this? Last thing I wanna do is bork it.

>>1471106

That's legitimately how it is, though. The game allows three save files and all three are taken and won't delete.

>> No.1471124

The idea is that if you hit "New Game" you can override a old save data. Or is the not working with that copy?
As for removing the battery is the one sure fire way to delete the save data. If done right you should have no problem. But as I said >>1471109 you might want to let someone that deals with soldering since that's how the battery secured to the case.

>> No.1471130

It's haunted OP. Go write a creepypasta about it and paste it in the ebay description. You will get da big bux.

>> No.1471141

The best option is to just remove the save battery.

It's pretty delicate, so have somebody with steady hands do it (or just snap the fucker off and solder on a new one).

Well, the way it works with Earthbound is that you've got three slots for save data. If a slot doesn't have a save, then it says "click here to start a new game," or something to that effect.

Since all three slots are taken, it's impossible do a new game without deleting the saves that are there, to the best of my knowledge.

>>1471141

Yeah, gonna give this a shot. Wish me luck.

I sold mine for like 80 dollars because I knew I wasn't really going to replay it again. Playing through it made me bawl my eyes out since I am really homesick I don't even care if I missed all the new dialogue after the last boss. I just sold it in the hopes someone would plaly through it maybe for the first time and that it wouldnt' collect dust somewhere.

If you're patient you'll be able to get it all eventually. These carts are getting sold and re-sold, rising in price with each transaction because of the craze. The vast majority of the people buying and selling are either just opportunists making a buck or people following the fad who are not serious collectors and will dump the games the instant they become bored with it or something comes up and they need money.

Eventually either the fad will die off or the market will reach unsustainable levels and collapse. Then the poor bastards at the end of the line will be stuck with stock they can't move. The games will be cheap and all nicely gathered together for you.

The same thing happened to baseball cards in the early 2000s.

If you do plan on taking the battery out, you might to consider just totally replacing the entire battery. Most SNES games still probably have about a decade or so of saving power left in them but why not extend the life while you're there?
