/vr/, halp. I took apart my MegaDrive to fix a bust reset button, and just put it back together.

But I forgot the metal bit.
Does it need it?
What is it for?

I have no idea... I am not into console modding at all because I can't solder. I fixed the F5 button by putting blu-tac on it.

I should have really asked for help BEFORE I took it apart.

It's an RF shield, to comply with FCC regulations. They don't broadcast on those frequencies anymore but it'll be lighter and feel chincier without it. It might also act as a heat sink or be somewhat relied on to add strength to the case but fuck it.

It's mostly RF shielding. It will work fine without it, but may cause interference on video/audio. I would put it back in, but no rush.

So not vital?
Because man, I took out a teaspoon of screws to get at the board.

RF Shield.
Not essential but highly recommended.
Just put it back together right.

Like some others have said it's just RF shielding. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes to take open her back up and slap that back in.

the fuck, do you also risk forgetting the clothes when you go out or the car when you go out for a ride?

>> No.1468137

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all of these RF shieldings a result of over-zealous government regulations? I've heard japanese systems don't have them. My Famicom certainly doesn't.

>> No.1468150

Guys, problem...

I have 7 screws left, but one is larger than the rest.
Can anyone tell me what hole the large screw goes in so I don't fuck it up even more?

Not vital to it working. My Japanese MD didn't come with one. But it's not major surgery to open the MD and put it back in.

>> No.1469271

Those are just radio shields OP. Those aren't important unless you're using RF, since they existed to stop interference in the signal from analog being beamed over the airwaves. Considering there's not really any analog TV signal even being broadcasted nowadays, you really shouldn't need them at all. My NES hasn't had them for 10 years now and nothing bad has ever come of it. I actually take them out on purpose nowadays, because I consider them pointless extra parts to put back in when you're taking it apart for anything.

My nigga.

Good thing you put the plate back in though, OP. Leaving it out makes the console way too light.
