(many) 2D games were meant to be difficult, (many) 3D games are meant to hold your hand through an interactive movie.

Which games are you thinking of?
I can't remember a game where this is true.

but that doesn't answer my question of why an enemy can automatically hurt you by just touching their body

I mean what, are they all poisonous? Does their "evil" emanate from their pores and repulse you?

I've been playing Sonic games for so long now, especially SA2Battle, but I still can't get over the fact that you lose all the fucking rings everytime you get hit. Imagine you have all 400 rings. you lose your S Rank as well. goddamnit.

also, can I just say how gorgeous the Knuckles and Rouge soundtracks are? I really miss such games that focus more on character themes and stuff.

Not obscure enough for your tastes?

>> No.1468540

It depends on what type of game it is. If it's a platformer, I'd be kind of disappointed if touching an enemy did nothing. If it's a fighting game, the enemy has an unfair advantage (depending on what type of weapons you have) if it automatically hurts you. It has nothing to do with 2D or 3D, although a large group of 3D games tend to be real time fighting based.

>> No.1468785

Implied attack, force of impact, poisonous, etc etc. 2D is a lot about abstraction, too.

OP is an idiot

2d platformer: touch an enemy get hurt
3d platformer: touch an enemy get hurt

2d beat em up (final fight): touch an enemy dont get hurt
3d beat em up (dmc): touch an enemy dont get hurt

2d fps: touch an enemy dont get hurt (although he will probably do an attack animation that does hurt you)
3d fps: touch an enemy dont get hurt (although he will probably do an attack animation that does hurt you)

fucking idiot

Arcade Mario Bros. actually showed the Shellcreepers biting you when you ran into one. Of course, that game had quite a bit of animation per character, more than the norm for 80s platformers.

but that's not really true. In Sanic Generations I think the S Rank is purely about finishing the stage in a certain time.
