Would a totally faithful remake of Doom with modern graphics be fun do you think? I'd like it if it was cel-shaded and kept as true as possible to the original designs. I personally couldn't care less about the story. But if they nail the atmosphere and tell stories through good (and preferably, abstract) level design it would be neat. I'm not sure on the logs and shit, maybe they would slow down the pace of the game too much.

Shit man you've been missing out, there's been a bunch of cool mods that've came out, Fractal got some new updates, Term's working on a metroid mod, complete with morphball mechanics, Polished Skull is pretty badass, there's Minigunner's mod which adds some neat gameplay tweaks, Marty's been working The Space Pirate and apparently he's gonna be adding little mac in as a special character. There's also SHOTGUNS where every bleeding actor bleeds shotguns that fire everywhere before blowing up

Oh and then there's my project, which is essentially every fantasy Capcom game (GnG, the D&D Beat em up, Magic Sword, etc) smashed with doom

It's all pretty hype

When the skin is done and I'm finished with the last few changes, I'll be able to do a full tech demo release, here and on the Z& forum.
How people respond to it will dictate the direction it goes in next. A full campaign for singleplayer? DM/CTF maps? Enemy replacements of space pirates?

Zdoom Pistol Start Options

Pistol_Start_Options.wad is a singleplayer (g)zdoom-only mod which allows various pistol start options for players. It is compatible with all maps using vanilla weapons and should be compatible with the majority of mods using non-vanilla weapons too. It works with or without (g)zdoom's autosave enabled. Uses CVars. Allows pistol start of every level, pistol start of level only after death, and immediate forced pistol start of level.

I hope you're playing the Redux version. It should still be available on the humble dumble and it's totally worth it. It's the best way to play SW. The only problem is that a glitch makes all voxels one inch lower so mines are invisible so you need to turn off voxels in levels where you hear the 'beep beep' sound of mines (but that only happens the most in twin dragon addon)

You should use SWTREKxx cheat to reach the next level. Every level is playable katana start, and to be honest, SW plays MUCH better if you start every level katana start or else you'll be running around with a full overpowered arsenal 75% of the time. With katana start every level it makes you use all weapon carefully, and makes you use item, and items add a LOT to the gameplay in Shadow Warrior.

Ever heard of the cancelled Deadly Kiss add-on? It's the holy grail for any SW fan

It was to be an official add-on pack for Shadow Warrior starring Lo wang's sister, No Wang. It sounded pretty damn cool, but like the other add-ons never made a commercial release. Whilst the other 2 got released for free at the end of the day, DK never got the same treatment. A few people managed to get hold of the fragments and then Devolver Digital are putting it together (I think they are at least, what's going on seems to be a bit of a clusterfuck) There's even art for her made by the same guy who did the art of Lo Wang and the monsters for the redux edition.

I have no idea what the final result will look like, but hopefully they're going all out and polishing it up.

Are you kidding? Wanton Destruction was overall amazing. Some levels aren't as good (the plane level sucks gameplay wise due to crampedness), but overall it's high quality.
Wanton Destruction was made by Sunstorm Interactive, who simply put, were the GODS of the Build engine and made the best add-ons for Blood (Cryptic Passage), for Duke3D (Caribbean Life) and some good stuff for SW and Redneck Rampage. They are responsible for some of the best commecial releases made with the build engine.

I didn't find Twin Dragon as good, but of course it's still really really good.
I'm having a hard time finding good content for SW (i've only found around 4-5 worthwile usermaps) so anything of that quality is just welcome and obviously I'm very excited for Deadly Kiss, I just hope we do get it in the end.

I did play them with Redux, but I'd go with SWP since it's a bit more compatible with mods IIRC.

When I was young has some REALLY cool ideas, but the execution is lacking and the level design isn't too hot. There's a broken bit where you have to protect your boss coming out of the prison and if he dies it's a gameover. Take a look at it, it's worth a playthrough but it's definitly janky and has some broken parts. Having said that, it has an actual plot and a branching storyline so it was way ahead of it's time at release, it's just very clear how far they stretched the game to achieve those things.

I'm a hardcore fan of Doom, so many times I would even try to come up with ideas for maps and mods with lucid dreaming, I would be in Episode 1 where I would often fight with zombies, imps and demons and help Romero mapping the shareware episode, but one day as I was talking to Romero, we went to one of my maps for a private talk. He immediately said, "You know you could be my bitch forever.." I gave him a confused look and he continued, "We understand that you live on earth and you REALLY wish to live here". Besides, the default softsynth is horseshit. Its a low quality 22KHz, 8-bit ADPCM dump of the Roland SC-55s sample ROM. And it is also incapable of reverberation, choral, and variation effects that a real synthesizer could apply in realtime. Hell, I think the Quicktime Music Synth could do it, and it used the same samples.

Just get the BASSMIDI System Driver and a good full GM (or GS/GM2/XG) soundfont. Or VST Host Driver and torrent Edirol Virtual Canvas or Yamaha SYXG100.

Hell, even TimGM6mb.sf2 isn't too bad for such a small size. I think it came bundled with PrBoom-plus at some point and was used when you set the MIDI device to use FluidSynth.

Silverspring and Arachno have fucked volume and panning levels. Depends on the MIDI whether it sounds good or not.

SGM-v.2.01 is fuckhuge, but good.

Avoid Crisis GM, and Airfont. They may be huge, but not that good. They're huge because they're packed with a shitton of extra non-GM compliant instruments you wont ever hear unless you're a musician who uses them in a DAW.

I got inspired by undead003 (or something like that, sorry in case of being wrong) who made a similar thing with some repeating MIDIs in the zDoom forums. Well while I have no plans of giving Blaz any more weapons. There'll be more characters added after v1.0 and once I figure out how to make item pickups look different for each character and give them each different things.

Kuros will have a long sword and a super shotgun, and Samson will have random flasks and the Ruby Wand Blaz is currently using in the version you're playing, though when it'll have a different primary fire, the force wave and most of the spells will be carried over.

Though if its any consolation Blaz will be getting two new subweapons: the boomerang and the torch, I'm also working on adding an additional secret subweapon.

Anyone have some protips for making weapons look like Blood? So far I just get a cloudy brush and try to repaint what I see in a blurry way on top of a surfaced blurred version of the sprite and then add noise.

Also if you know who to contact to update the Caleb addon with Bloodier sprites it'd be great if you passed this on. The 3.73 revolver doesn't match Caleb's other weapons.

It means this is a weapon, the ready state has A_WeaponReady to signify it can be fired, the deselect state has A_Lower to signify it can be lowered, the select state has A_Raise to signify it can be raised, the fire state has A_FireCustomMissile which fires a custom missile, etc, etc.

Well, all classes are finished, two are implemented in Samsara (Grondoval + Aldus Kaden), Freeman has its own WAD with all finished stuff, even the squeaks / snarks work now! (there are changes though, fuck those Zandronum engine limits).

I was about to release a .7z file that contains EVERYTHING of the addon (.xcf Gimp files for the tipboxes, HUDs, mugshots etc., ReadMe's of each class with a huge list of changes todo etc.). I gave it already to Ijon and Terminus, they will take care of it. I thought they said they will finish it, but I misread the message (d'uh).

I'll be on vacation for 3 months, ranging from 17th of March until 23th of June.

I polished Freemans EGON beam. Now it should look EXACTLY like in Half Life 1. I changed a few algorithms. (there was also a bug that made the straight line appear one tic later, because i = 0 -> i%NUMB is always 0 at beginning. It caused the delay). This beast of a weapon takes a cyberdemon down from any range withing 7 seconds, but drains ammo very fast (approx 130 cell ammo to kill a cyberdemon). This weapon is like the original EGON designed to kill bosses, not hordes of demons.

Like: Challenges where mappers put limitations on themselves are the best. This wad has small maps which feel like they're fairly large, and lots of innovation and mapping wizadry. Some of the maps feel like Scythe 2, and that's a good thing to say about a Doom map.

I think the reason it worked there was because it was entirely about /pol/, and thus consistent and also it went the full measure with integrating them. And the way they were used worked really well, like the happening counter.

Stuff like random memes sprinkled throughout an otherwise unrelated work, unless they were very subtle, would probably fall flat.

Something like "The Memes are in Doom!" where it's a work built around "popular memes" would probably end up dogshit.

The sound of bullets rebounding off walls is annoying as fuck, especially when you use the super shotgun. Speaking of which, it sounds weak as fuck, just plain weird. Checked, and Zandronum doesn't support the flags I was gonna use, so it looks like I'm not gonna be able to make it in a timely fashion unfortunately.

I've had a similar idea for a mod in the past though, so maybe someday.

What you're talking about with double ammo pickups could be approximated with sv_doubleammo if both of them share.

What's he's talking about is entirely separate pickups like in serious sam, where there are lets say two copies of a shotgun in one place and either player can only pick up one of the shotguns.

The way that the Zandronum and ZDoom forums behave is WAY, WAY more different that how Doomworld does, and anyone knows it.

What happened in that DW thread would've been locked in the 2nd page in the ZDoom forums but it extended unnecessarily thanks to the fretfulness of *some* people that let some stuff slide which would've costed an insta-warning in the ZDoom forums to each part involved.

And the most remarkable difference between each one of 'em is that DW has Post Hell which is more of a glorified showcase rather than a trash bin of useless discussion.

For maps you have the Scythes, the Deus Vults, Hellbound, etc. Look up the Cacowards.

For new enemies, weapons and gameplay elements, you have Project MSX, get the Badass monsters addon for this.
Cyberruner is nice if you want to go sanic fast and do trickjumps and shit. It's a different experience but it's fun.

For weapons, you MUST try Russian Overkill. It adds a shitton of (overpowered as hell, but fun) guns. Best palyed on a Slaughterwads, like Sun.

Nothing is compatible with Brutal Doom except for that one real guns mixup that Zdoom forums has.

If you put in custom monsters it breaks the weapon balance even further since BD's weaponry is 3x stronger than default.
If you put in different weapons then the monsters won't react to the different weapon types unless specifically coded to do so.
