As hard as I try I can't find any good source on this.

Let's make a thread to all of the /vr/ related games out there that are co-op. All of those games where you may have not even known you could multi-play them.

For me, FF6 will always be a special memory because I played through that whole thing with my Dad when I thought he didn't even like video games to begin with.

>> No.1462959

ff6 co-op? when was that two player ? What game is in the bottom screen shot? Why is this post creating questions not discussion?

>> No.1462968

Both FF6 and FF4 are two player. Its not well known because its not all that amazing; both controllers control the same cursor. But it does say 2 players on the box.

Dear lord. the bottom is FF9, the top is FF6 (FF3 in Japan iirc). they both have co-op options when you go into the menu and you can assign controllers to certain people but only in battle.

I've heard it called 3 a fair amount of times. I guess I always assumed it was the number used elsewhere, because the FF3 I knew of was the one where you start as O knights and had the job change system.

Doesn't change the fact that it's FF6 nigga.

I dont know if /vr/ cares about old vehicle-military games but I loved this one as a kid. The second controller can control the gun and switch weapons etc. Its actually fairly useful because the gun has free range of motion making the games controls a bit complex for player 1.

Tales of Eternia/Destiny II has pretty decent co-op, allowing for one to three additional players to join in and play as the other three party members. Helps that the game plays pretty fluidly too, given that it's only the third original title in the series. Only real negative is the that co-op camera can kind of hamper playing with more than 2-3 people, since it focuses on where player one is (works well enough if the players are all playing melee range inclined characters, since player two can generally follow player one's lead if both are playing as, say, Reid and Farah.

Actually rather surprised at how well the game still holds up.

>>1464698
Love me some Tales co-op. Managed to play Eternia, Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, Graces, and Xillia with a friend thus far, been fun every time. Kind of sad that besides that series (and the Mana series too, I suppose) it's a bit hard to find JRPGs with decent co-op.

>> No.1464735

>>1464718
I've found myself wondering if the ability to co-op the Tales games was intentionally put in the early games, or if someone on the team may have snuck the option for it in and it worked well enough to stick to the point that every console entry (aside from Legendia) has allowed for it since. Either way I'm grateful for it.

I actually picked up a copy of my own a year or two back. Between the game holding up pretty damn well, loving the series in general, it being a lot of fun, and having co-op, I don't regret dropping the money on it. Helps it was complete and it great shape too.

Probably would be more available if Namco had given it decent marketing (a trend they would keep for most of the series, barring Symphonia which had its marketing done by Nintendo).

I think this is the only RPG I know where the only way to unlock multiplayer is by inputing a code:

>Two player mode:
>Press Z to display the weapon menu. Hold X and press L. A second Leon that is usable by controller two will be added when both buttons are released. Entering the code again will return the game to single player mode.

It's an action-RPG, a sequel to Beyond Oasis (Genesis), and you can play the whole game with a friend. It's really fucking fun, but not that popular.

Just played this yesterday for the first time.

Cool as fuck.

beautiful scaling sprite, eh music, and fun co-op gameplay.
One person controls the ships motion and main gun, the other controls a weapons tracking system and powerful sub-weapons. Missiles, bombs, etc.

A LOT of fun and the co-op atmosphere is really heavy. You feel very dependent on each other.

The only flaw in this was you couldn't play a level on co-op without doing it first in Single-player.

On the plus side it's so far the only game I've seen with Counter-op (Player 1 is Joanna, Player 2 is every guard in the level)
Sounds unfair but Player 2 cannot pick his spawn point, has limited ammo, about 10% HP and limited to 1 gun and a suicide pill

Heard Seiken Densetsu 3 was good so played, so my friend and I decided to play Secret of Mana and then Seiken afterwards. Hated the living shit out of Secret of Mana. We were amused at how horribly designed and obnoxious it was, so we eventually got through it after at least a year.

Shortly after, we started playing Seiken, and we've been playing it on and off for three years. It's better than SoM, but still not great. We spend most of the time aimlessly wandering around, and when we find what we have to do we end up in a boss fight that takes 30 minutes. We are near the end of the game now

I disliked SD3 because of how short it is. It can be beaten, start to finish, in about three or four hours. Very short. SoM is a much longer game, but SD3 is more immersive and interesting to me. I find it a tad odd that you disliked them both, but to each their own. What co-op games or sorts of co-op games do you like, then?

>> No.1467859

>>1467843
I like JRPG's so I imagine I'd really enjoy one of those Final Fantasy games co-op with someone else who's into it. Aside from that old Beatemups like Turtles in Time have been fun, and not /vr/ but I played through all of New Super Mario Bros Wii with a girlfriend once and had a lot of fun with that. Also, Goemon's Great Adventure.

Those two Mana games were just so tedious and gave you no direction. I've spent so much time in Seiken flying around the map trying to find a place to land, unsure of whether or not I had even beat the place I'm trying to go to. You're given no guidance in how to level your characters, and the random battles can be totally unpredictable.

Secret of Mana was just a terribly made pile of shit. I'm convinced that 100% of people who like that game are blinded by nostalgia goggles. Nobody in their right mind could play it for their first time and put it on the same level as Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger.

I've not played either in years, but I clearly remember 11-year old me never having any problems with where to go in SoM and 18-year old me was routing around in the code of SD3 just at the time of its fan-trans release.

I didn't find either particularly tedious and I have no idea what you're talking about with "random battles" in SD3. There are none. Enemies appear on-screen where they always appear and you can just walk right past them. And I really, really disliked CT.
I played CT on its first release. Beat it in a week. Maxed out all characters and even the walk counter another seven days after that. Got every item, compiled my own steal-guide and FAQ and all that stuff (like I did with most games I played) and still was not overly fond of the game. For a game with back and forth through time and all that, it's pretty fucking linear, the battles were boring, the story line had no true villain (fighting Lavos is more like fighting an inevitable catastrophe... like an earthquake or a tsunami and its motivation isn't villainous at all: it's part of its survival, no different than any other hetereotroph eating other things) and the whole game just felt flat to me. I much preferred SoM to CT.
I like FFIII/VI, though.
