1457603 No.1457603 [Reply] [Original]

I'm replaying this. Been a long ass time since I've first played, so I've forgotten most of what I knew.

Any tips you guys can offer?

Also, general FFT discussion thread, I guess.

men are better at the physical stats than women naturally, and women are better at magic naturally

It's more important to manage the job system correctly than to follow any sort of battle strategy.

Yeah, I remember this. Already got my party lined up with good bravery and faith and all that too.

>>1457709
How do I go about managing it "correctly"?

First time I played it, I changed classes a shitton, just trying them out.

Every job has a stat growth system.
You can adjust Brave and Faith levels if you add/subtract from their stats in combat.

It depends on how you want to play "correctly." Like a perfect stat crunch? Super grindy? Go through the entire game w/o a random battle for more xp?

All of it is doable!

>correctly is without Orlandeau

>> No.1457743

>>1457727

What stats are there even? I'm not seeing any typical stuff like strength, magic, whatever.

And I don't do any crazy min/max stuff. I vageuly remember wrecking plenty of shit without worrying about that or stat growths. I would just keep my units physical or magical, and that seemed to work out fine.

And yeah, I didn't use Orlandeau too much. Just kinda takes the fun out. Agrias and Meliadoul are plenty strong.

Plus, I know there's a bunch of ways generics can break the game in half. Never bothered using calculators, so I might try them out.

Gonna give this one final bump.

I thought /vr/ might like FFT. Although perhaps there's not too much to discuss about it these days.

Keep at least one female physical to turn into a dancer and get forbidden dance. A game breaker right there.

Make every character learn JP boost (even your mages, though'll you'll have to switch them for a while to squires) and you'll be able to get the best jobs pretty early. Focus on getting all the jobs before anything else.

Once you get Samurai, get shirahadori, and once you get ninja, access dualwield. Those are two of the best abilities in the game.

To quickly overpower anything, learn dualwield as a ninja, switch to monk and dualwield (two physical punches) and wait until you master the job and turn it back into a ninja. Makes the rest of the game a joke.

Look, if you want help on with the game, there's a plethora of worthwhile guides available on the internet. If you want to have meaningful discussion, you need to provide us with something more than "plz halp".

Cool, I'll keep all that in mind. Don't think I used a dancer.

>>1459937
Well, alright then. What did you think of War of the Lion's retranslation? Some people seem to really dislike it. I've been enjoying it though. Seems to fit the setting pretty well. Gaffgarion seems much more dickish and sarcastic to Agrias at the beginning.

Overall WotL's translation is much better despite going a little overboard with the Shakespearean stuff.. There are way too many blatant errors in the original.

What else is there to discuss?

TO is clearly the superior game.

Hmm, I might after I finish my playthrough.

I'm currently using a patch that replaces the original dialogue with the WotL dialogue, so I don't want to put another patch on top of it. Plus, I'm not entirely familiar with vanilla FFT in general.

I definitely will give it a go though. Maybe even try 1.3 just to give it a shot. Might end up being fun.

Fuck that translation. I will admit it does clear up some ambiguous points in the story, but the pseudo-shakesperian is more annoying than immersive.

Seriously, little mistakes are the things you remember and don't really detract from the game.

Because they're awful and stupid. There's no excuse for that kind of shoddy translation, and defending it makes you look like an idiot.

>>1460257
The worst part of the PSP remake was the inexplicable slowdown during attacks.

I honestly think the translation adds a lot to the game, and gives characters more personality.

>>1460262
The original dialogue certainly isn't bad. It's no worse than just about any other PS1 RPG at the time.

>I thought it was pretty obvious she did.
But I am pretty sure Daravon's history book states that Delita ruled as a wise king for a long period of time

This means either Ophelia, after having been queen for some time, finally cracks and kills an elderly Delita after having ruled as the good king

OR

Delita survived the attack shortly into his kinghood and ruled without a queen.

OP here again, should I focus on just a small party of 4 generics?

I have two males that are physical based and two females that are magic based.

Thinking of adding a magic based male and a physical based female for Bard and Dancer.

>> No.1460349

Four generics + Ramza or
3+Ramza?

I think if you go for 4+R, there will be some battles where guests will make at least one of your generics sit out.

I think I always go for the 3+Ramza.

I never really got into using special characters except for Unit 8 and Cloud.

>> No.1460371

>>1460349

4 generics + Ramza.

I like to try to keep a balanced team. 2 physical, 2 magical, and Ramza.

And I'm an idiot, I just realized I could just make one of my dudes magical and one of my girls physical. Fortunately, they all have fairly high faith and bravery.

Does that screw units up though? Switching them between magical and physical?

>> No.1460383

>>1460371
Every time you gain a level in a job, they gain specific stats.

Gaining levels in a warrior type job will raise atk and strength type deal.

That's why people where asking how much you care to grind and manage your levels.

I never gave to fucks and just had people in the jobs I needed or had them learn combo skills.

You'll be fine.

Also, spend some time in chemist/squire at least to unlock the jobs of the other tree. By using the characters and gaining job levels, the others characters will too.

This lets you learn white magic and abilities like mana font or equip gun without having to spend much time in a magical job. It also lets you learn high level black magic spells to teach to each other.

>> No.1463594

>>1462681
I always get some basic stuff in Squire and Chemist, and that gets me a few classes unlocked for skills.

Man, I forgot how free form this game is. Doesn't take you long at all to open up a whole bunch of classes. And just about everyone plays the game differently.

I just got finished with Fire Emblem: Awakening, and class changing in that game is such a pain and requires tons of grinding. So it's nice to have a game where they make it so simple and easy.
