Look at the proliferation of Brazillian Mega Drive successors and such.

The Genesis was a flash in the pan as far as the amount of systems called Mega Drive are concerned.

I am American. It is the Genesis here, but there are probably 9 Mega Drives for every Genesis on earth. Especially considering America wasn't Sega's primary market EVER. Look to Brazil and Europe for Sega Mega Drives.

I am the only Sega collector in my county (I know this because I am a dirty reseller, and all the other resellers pass over Sega) and I don't know of ANYONE who calls it Megadrive.
Genesis is the best name, and I bet some people outside of the US call it Genesis more than Megadrive because of media proliferation.

Deal with it. I only call it Genesis here to avoid this kind of thing. Actually, I only saw a Genesis once in my life, and I have one Ecco cartridge labeled as Genesis.It's the same reason I don't use too much the Famicom/Super Famicom names when I post in brazilian forums, they will probably ask about what the hell I'm saying.
