I got my copy of FF VII for $10 at a local shop complete, and FF IX for $5. Of course, this is just personal experience. I just find that the popular titles for the Playstation (Crash Bandicoot, Croc, Gex, Medevil) are cheap than the popular SNES games (Super Metrois, FFII and III, LoZ LttP, Kirby Super Star). This is all from personal experience and not fact. Take that for what you will.

True, but the point I was illustrating is that if even SFC games, which are higher in demand by collectors here in the States, cost significantly less than the best selling FF game (to my knowledge) and the game that defined the Playstation, PS1 games are disgustingly overpriced.

Shit, I just made a thread on /v/ about this:

>games with questionable prices

How the hell is this $100 nowadays? It's not a well-known cult classic, and I don't recall it having an extremely limited run or anything. Hell, it's pretty average when compared to other tycoon games out there.

Nigger, you're crazy. PS1 prices really aren't that bad (for a game that had an average print run, you will pay 50 dollars at MOST). And you can't compare SFC and PS1, the Japanese market != the American market. Imports are not coveted at all by the hipster douchebags that are causing the SNES price inflation.
Here's a more sensible comparison to use:
>FF3 SNES complete copy: 110-130 bucks
>FF7 PS1 complete copy: 20-40 dollars
That's more what you should be comparing. Boxed SNES prices are crazy. FF3 loose is around 40-50 bucks even.

>> No.1431882

>>1431879
FF3 has always cost that, though. There was never a point in time that its resale value (not talking about cheating grandmothers at yardsale) wasn't 40ish bucks. It went right from extremely expensive cartridge game to desired collector's item.

I beg to differ. I got my copy with the box, map, and game for 30 bucks on eBay about 6 years ago. It only hit 40-50 cart only in recent times, if I recall correctly.

Even then, we could always use another example. Chrono Trigger, which used to be around 60 dollars? Super fucking Mario World being 15 dollars minimum despite being common as dirt? SNES games that were also ported to the Genesis being expensive despite it being either almost the same game or even an inferior version (Lost Vikings comes to mind)? There's tons of examples of how inflated SNES games are. PS1 games are not nearly as bad in comparison. I would love to dig out more examples if you need me to. These games have not always been this expensive.

>> No.1431919

Dude, duh. It's RAREware!

>> No.1431923

The best question here to ask is any game worth this price? I would say no.

Now if your rich go ahead and buy all you want. I still wish I had my old consoles and games. Not to sell but simply to have them and go back to play them the way they were meant to.

>> No.1431943

>>1431516
>Is there no way to stop this, or is this the future of retro games?

As I see it, the only way to stop overpriced reseller bullshit is to convince companies like Nintendo to reproduce their older consoles and cartridge games that are both compatible with the original hardware in any combination, to devalue overpriced shit on the internet by making retro gaming with the original hardware (or close) 'in'.

Which is probably a bad idea in itself and would make collecting all that old vidya less meaningful.

A flashcart or modchip for nearly any game gets the exact same result for less.

And beyond that emulation even without crt is pretty good with more controller options and ease of game selection.

I bought a copy recently. If they don't post pictures of the board (most don't) just make sure you can get a refund either through Ebay or Paypal disputes. Yes, iphones and ipads and whatnot with flappy bird on them are going for ludicrous amounts of money but the catch is no one is buying them. I don't think a single one has sold.

Every time I see this I remember being at Toy's "R" Us in the mid 90's and seeing Earthbound for 50 bucks not thinking it would be good. But I did get Secret of Mana for 70 bucks so it worked out. But damm I wish i got Earthbound.

As much as I am into Call of Duty, the full sooper dooper XTREEEEME Mountain Dew editions might cost $120 but they're sure as hell not worth $120 let me tell you.
