How come we're not having Heretic/Hexen threads anymore?

I've been meaning to finish Hexen 2 and with the Hammer of Thryrion source port installed the game stops looking so dull, which was probably my biggest gripe with it before, and the OpenGL enhancements that come with it as well as numerous bug fixes really add a lot of flavor and breathe a new life into Hexen 2, while still keeping in tone with the original game. With HoT I could also finally get the music to work by converting the audio tracks on the CD into mp3 files. Great stuff.

Hello /vr/,

I want to find a game my brother and me played when we were young. The problem is that we haven't many hints. The only clues we have are:
- It's a ps1 game
- It's like the game Unholy War (from ps1)
- It has a fighter that is a blue ,man-bird that can fly a little while (it's like falco from starfox or super smash bros melee)

I tried in /r/ and /v/ (didn't know about /vr/). I know this is nearly imposible but maybe someone knows about this game.

I take it making maps for Hexen is more difficult than for DOOM due to its hub system?

It's sad there aren't more mods for the game since it really broke some ground.

Probably no more than those newfangled Doom source ports that offer scripting. I'd say it's just because Doom is more popular, and there weren't as many tools for it back in the day.

It also greatly increases how much damage you take. If it was just that it'd have been fine. But yeah it's best to play Action difficulty. Adventure is pathetically easy.

>>1430769
No. Her mode of play doesn't work with the game's design at all, at least not for singleplayer. Also there's no point to using anything but the scarab staff once you get it.

Scarab Staff was garbage against bosses and (strangely enough) destructibles. The Steam version has some patch where it has a massive cooldown so you have to charge it rather than spam.

Ah, ya I think you're right.
I have 3 versions on my computer lol. The original cd, the Steam version, and a portable compilation package thing. It was the compilation version that had a slower Scarab Staff.
Literally the only games I have on Steam are 4 heretics/hexens, because I could successfully pirate the expansions.

One of the most common complaints I've seen towards Hexen is the lack of weapons per class and, while overall it has more weapons than most fps' of the 90s, I can't really argue against that. On and off over the years I'd stop and think what could be added and yet I've only ever come up with one idea that felt right; in my head, at least, cause I can't into modding.

Why is coming up with ideas so hard?

>> No.1431872

>>1431829
>lack of weapons per class

What are you even talking about

The weapons system was based on what character you chose.

>> No.1431880

>>1431872
In Doom, every number key nets you a sick weapon; every game. In Hexen, you get 4 weapons per game, and 1 of them is a missable ultimate weapon.

I don't really care though. The axe is sick and you can still cleave and slash when you go oom.

>> No.1431890

>>1431872
It's exactly as it was stated: a lack of weapons per class. As we all know there's a grand total of 12 weapons, 4 for each class, and as the Fighter or Cleric you'll never use your first weapon once you've obtained the second.

Not even complaining about it, just pointing out a common complaint I read about Hexen whenever it's brought up.

A weapons system in Doom would have been a pretty rad idea though.
