Hey /vr/

I'm thinking of putting up a wii with homebrew to emulate NES/SNES/N64 etc, but I have a few questions first.

1. I live in EU, and if I buy a PAL Nintendo Wii, does the games run 50Hz on my TV? Is there a way to make them run 60Hz?

2. I have seen a few how-to videos on installing homebrew, and it seems like I need normal SD card (not SDHC) to install it. The max capacity of normal SD seems to be 2gb. After I have installed Homebrew, can I use SDHC card to move emulators and roms to Wii?

3. What controller should I get? Should it be using the Wii's controller port or usb port?

4. Why isn't there Gamecube emulation for wii?

5. Is it true and what it means Black Wii can only install homebrew IOS or something and White one can do something both.. Weird question but I mean the part 05:40 of the video under.

This is the how-to video I watched:

1) I guess (not sure) just have a TV with component so it wont even matter? not sure

2)SDHC should be supported and definetly after WILL be supported i used SDHC myself

3) Mayflash snes/nes wii adaptor, all the controllers that plug directly into the wii mote suck shit, this one you use a legit controller and use it to plug into the wiimote. otherwise just use wii/gamecube controller stuff if you have to/want to

4)there is? you need to HAVE gamecube ports on your wii, if you dont, shit outta luck look into Gamma backup loader

5) nintendo fucking hates that people use their shit to pirate, it was a design change after all this wiibrew stuff they put a stop to hardware wise, lookinto making bootmii on a SD card just in case the WORST happens, and since your so green with all of this you NEED IT

Thank you for this. Any recommendation on cntroller that could work for snes and n64 so I could buy 4 or 2 of those and not like 2 type A controllers and 2 type B controller? So all the buttons and analog sticks required.

Also what is that IOS even? Can you explain me what is bootmii? What got changed? What I need to do differently if I get black WII?

There are adapters to plug real controllers into the Wiimote or the GameCube ports. Don't take that one Anon's word for it that the Classic controllers are bad though. Most of us find them to be pretty sweet plus.. I mean... look at how similar it is to a SNES controller.

Wait wait wait, these controllers plug to Wii Mote? The one in my picture? So I'm going to need to buy 2-4 wii motes AND retro controllers? or what are these gamecube ports, I can plug the controllers there? is there 4 ports?

Sorry for bad english.

If you want four identical controllers, and you're not planning to play multiplayer Wii games (or planning to play multiplayer GameCube games) then you might want to use the GameCube ports. Any way you slice it, you're going to spend more money on the controllers than on the Wii itself if you want four identical ones that work with all your emulators.

Those Wii Classic controllers can be found really cheap right now though, but they do plug into the Wiimote.

The Wii can output in either 50Hz or 60Hz, and homebrew emulators generally let you choose the video mode. Normal Wii games generally run at 60Hz, or give you an option between the two.

>3
Classic Controller, or Classic Controller Pro. You can also buy official SNES controllers.
>>1423446
Assuming you want to play 4-player, yes, you would need 4 wii-motes and 4 retro controllers.

Is there anyway to plug a usb controller into the wii to play games with? I've got a copycat nes USB controller that I'd love to use instead of the
wii one.

Probably the cheapest way to get four identical controllers that will work with all the emulators is to use regular GameCube controllers, although prices have been going up on them lately. Also, they'll be slightly awkward to use for anything other than GameCube games... But not as impossible as using SNES controllers to play N64 or GameCube games.

check the label on the back. if it was made in the early 90s then it may not. 60hz has been the standard for years though (fuck yeah dreamcast)

Only one thing that bothers me is the difference between black and white Wiis..

you're way overthinking this dude, just do the bannerbomb thing and load homebrew apps off sd or usb, and the classic controller pro kicks ass, get one. don't worry about ioses unless you wanna do backups, in that case just run and install the d2X one, I think. it's really not that hard, I've been doing it since I was 13 back when there was no homebrew channel and just the twilight hack .elf launchers, and I'm almost 21 now

Okay thanks for this. It's just that a relative of mine has a black nintendo wii bought like 3 or something years ago and I am just unsure if things will work... But I guess they work then. Just a quick question what is the backup of? Backup of the whole system or? games? Nothing to do with saving game progress right?

ah because of course they're all the same gamecube style, that is pretty awkward for other games than gamecube as mentioned.. I was hoping for like classic controller for gamecube port.

>Just use RGB SCART and you won't have to worry about it.
RGB SCART doesn't have anything to do with it being able to display a 60Hz picture. If his television supports 60Hz, he'll be able to get it over any cable. The only reason RGB is usually mentioned alongside "60Hz" is because most mods to make PAL consoles output 60Hz don't replace the oscillator crystal, so they have the wrong color subcarrier. Because RGB cables skip over this, they can display a color image.

>>1423515
Looking at the service manual, there is nothing to imply your television can handle a 60Hz signal. If you have a Wii on hand, you can test to see if your TV accepts a 60Hz signal by going into the settings menu, selecting "screen", then "TV Resolution", and then change it from "50Hz (576i)" to "60Hz (480i)". If it works, your TV can do 60Hz.

Most Wiis prior to the Mini and WiiU are backwards-compatible with GameCube games. However be aware that USB loading them is a pain, you either get DRM (Devolution) or lower game compatibility (Dios Mios (Lite)). I ended up burning games to DVD to run through NeoGamma+cMIOS but there are still a few compatibility issues with that, and it also requires a GameCube memory card.

>5
Older Wiis have a useful bug that lets you modify boot2 without bricking it...
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Boot1
...and there are advantages to doing this.
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/BootMii

But don't worry too much if it can't, you can still enjoy homebrew without it. Also not all white ones allow you to modify boot2, like mine for example.
