What I unveil today will mark a new era for the Empire. We will be able to decimate the Rebels just as we did the Jedi Knights. At last the Emperor's war will be filled only with the glory and beauty of decisive victory.

this game was more technically sophisticated than Doom but gets no mention for it

It got mentions at the time. I vividly remember them using a pull quote at the time in their full-page ads from a review that said "Is it as good as Doom? In fact, in almost every way, it's better."

It was very well received.

>tfw no new Dark Forces game

This and Jedi Knight still have some of the best level design of any shooter I've ever played.

Kyle was best when he was just a merc and none of the Jedi shit had happened yet.

Yeah I agree and the Dark Forces Blaster Rifle was better than all the subsequent games.

The first Jedi Knight is impressively vertical in a lot of the level design. It really makes good use of 3D space. That's something I miss that older FPSes tended to be better at.

There was some talk of this in the last thread
Cool things that the Jedi Engine can do:

>portals to simulate seamless room-over-room architecture
>catwalks and bridges you can go over and under
>rotating platforms/walls and 3D objects
>sectors with movement effects, like conveyor belts and ice
>lighting from the headlamp
>jumping and looking up and down

this stuff was used in the level design so it wasn't just gimmicks

Is there anyway to play the game in a higher res? I dont mean the window size I mean the game itself.

I don't believe there is. There's that the DarkXL thing some guy has been working on for forever (it's not a source port, it's reverse engineered and still quite buggy, I don't like it much at all) but I just suffer with the original res in DOSBox.

yeah I wasn't even going to bother with darkxl I dont even think its ever going to be finished
