I wanted to play Alien Soldier but I'm reading that this PS2 port really improves the game. My PC can't emulate PS2 so I was wondering is the original version still worth playing? Or should I just emulate the port when I get a better computer?

>The Sega Ages version, whose disc also includes Treasure's Gunstar Heroes and Dynamite Headdy, exceeds the Mega Drive's intrinsic sprite display limit, which eliminates slowdowns or missing graphics during busy scenes (e.g. boss fights with many explosions). Also, the player can select either the sprite-based pixelated graphics of the original game or a new mode that uses certain filters to produce a high-resolution look.

original japanese is superior

Is there a difference between the megadrive English and Japanese versions?

You're falling into one of the reasoning traps that can lead you to never actually playing games, just to THINK about playing games.

YOLO Motherfucker

pal is slower or whatever
read hardcoregaming101's article, they talk about it

Alright. Also, the game is on Steam. Is that version the same as the PS2 version with the lack of slowdowns and more effects?

I am going to play it now. Just curious at this point if the Steam version is the same as the PS2 port

not sure
alien soldier doesnt really have much slowdown, except for when you do a phoenix force (special move, does damage for every frame you are inside of an enemy)

That slowdown just makes it more epic - I thought it was intentional

wow smile knows about some games after all

Yeah, seems intentional. I don't remember there being much if any slowdown if you waste Phoenix Force and don't hit anything with it.
The slowdown is probably there to let you know you're doing damage, and give you an idea of just how much damage you're dealing, without you having to look at the gauges or numbers at the top.

Are both versions supposed to run at 50FPS? I'm using Fusion and I don't know a ton about emulation so excuse my ignorance. Both the Jap and English copies become really sped up when it's at 60 and I really don't think it's supposed to run that way. So is 50FPS the correct framerate?

>> No.1412730

>>1412703
yes, 50fps is right

>> No.1413687

Ok motherfuckers
Megadrive/Genesis original only suffers from disappearing sprites. All slowdowns are intentional.

You can disable sprite limit in most emulators on PC.

STEAM version is fucking genesis emulator with one game. Quick states and shit. Pure jew shit don't bother with it.

PS2 version IS genesis emulator version but packed with artbook, statistics and other fancy shit. There is no gameplay difference, but bonus material is really neat if you're AS fan. It has story and characters art. Including Epsilon's human form

So even if your shit PC can't handle native ps2 games on emulator you can still try to give it a roll.

JP and US versions should run at 60hz.

There is no US version.

Huh, never noticed until now. Regardless, I just tried both JP and EU images on my (60hz) Genesis and they both seem to run at the same speed. So, I don't think there's any 50hz correction (or, if there is, it's smart enough to detect a 60hz console).

IIRC the Steam version just runs a stripped down Genesis emulator.
