For other great games, Natsume's Wild Guns comes to mind, it's on the Wii's Virtual Console

Yeah I know, it's a terribly obvious choice and I have played a number of better games for the SNES. As with most people, I have personal memories that make this game so fond to me.

My family fled to Germany right before the onset of the civil war in Bosnia. We lived with my mother's family, and as a 6-8yo kid from a third-world country, I was endlessly fascinated by my cousin's SNES. One of my most magical memories is a dark November afternoon when my cousin came home with a copy of Secret of Mana. There was a huge thunderstorm going on, and my cousin was soaked to the bones since he wrapped the box in his coat to keep it safe. I'll never forget the whale. Shit was absolutely magical.

He didn't let me play it (understandably enough), but he let me read the strategy guide, which I did over and over for the next couple of months. Secret of Mana kind of became my crystallization point of 90s gaming and of the 90s in general. My younger brother bought me a copy of the game a couple of years ago as a birthday present. Playing it for the first time after having it on my mind for almost 20 years was... it's hard to put it in words.

So, yeah, Secret of Mana is my favorite SNES game. Sorry for the blog post.

That was able to out-perform a 16-bit machine that wasn't the Genesis or Neo Geo. It might've been an NES with more sprites and a larger color palette, but damn it that's exactly how a console should've been designed.

>> No.1404214

>>1404180

>The TurboGrafx-16 has a 8-bit CPU and a dual 16-bit GPU; and is capable of displaying 482 colors simultaneously, out of 512.

It's got a shit CPU but it can still display more colors than the Genesis.

>> No.1404218

>>1404214
It can display more colors than the SNES, even. The only console that has it beat is the Neo Geo.

>> No.1404227

>>1404218
I don't know how many simultaneous colors, but the SNES has the same palette as the PlayStation at 32,768 possible colors.

Colors really don't matter, though, because Genesis and SNES games tended to actually look like they belonged in their generation while a lot of PC Engine games look only slightly better than what Master System was capable of.

>> No.1404234

>>1403182
really why would you faggots argue about which system was better based on technical aspects instead of good games?
even then i'm sure you enjoy games from both systems

>> No.1404320

>>1404227
I think the SNES can do 256 simultaneous colors? Which is a far cry from the PCE's 482. The PC Engine, like the Genesis, has an available palette of 512 colors, while the SNES is much higher. The Neo Geo leaves them all in the dust with an available palette of 65,536 colors, and being able to use 4,096 colors at a given time.

>I think I just realized how lacking SNES is in the third party department.

I beat Front Mission years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'm currently playing through Gun Hazard, but am not enjoying myself despite loving Cybernator and Metal Warriors. I feel they took the worst aspects of RPGs and placed them in a sidescroller. I can see why people would like it, though.

>>1403831
I can understand the love for this game. I only just played it relatively recently, missing it due to being blinded by FF3 and Chrono Trigger in my youth. It's a game that, while a little lacking in polish, is quite fun regardless.

>>1404320
Yeah, but the PC engine actually split that 482 in half, using half for background and half for sprites.
