A couple days ago an anon suggested that we start uploading our own gameplay videos to youtube since all that ever gets uploaded are shitty LP videos with horrible commentary.

I wanted to see if there would actually be any interest in doing so as a community.

That's a pretty good project. Longplays of games. Should check that project out. You can join their forums and request to do games that they have not covered yet.

My question is commentary or no commentary.

I hate talking heads, but some games can be incredibly boring to watch, especially JRPGs. The only reason I watched a 30+ part playthrough of chrono trigger was because the guys doing it were actually interesting to hear talk. And I was alone for weeks stuck in a hospital bed.

What bothers me about this is a lot of the time you can very clearly see that the player is just some guy, someone who's never played before, and is using save states and slowdown and whatever to get through and record the game.
Watching a skilled player is ALWAYS much more interesting.

Long plays with no commentary for archival purposes, maybe youtube text commentary so you can turn it off. Someone can always edit the playthroughs down to commentate about the game. The problem we're trying to fix is that everything on youtube is shitty LPs with commentary. Let the game speak for itself.

I heartily support this. I'm not against LPs, but I really wish I didn't have to sift through so many to find plain gameplay footage for most games.
