Has anyone here played this? Is it any good from a gameplay perspective?

I know about its story and its major twist in the end which is really interesting for a game of its age, but I'm interested in how the game itself is.

I lose my shit every time I am reminded of this game simply because of its music.

It's pretty clunky but it's probably worth playing if you have the time and patience for it.

Do you mean that in a good or a bad way?

I think you can fly if you mash air-attack fast enough? I haven't played the game myself, but I've seen a speedrun of it.

Oh god, this fucking thing.

The actual action feels kinda choppy and kinda off somehow. Killing enemies with your twin swords takes way too long (there are a bunch of other weapons, but they're unwieldy as shit for the most part), the levels drag on for far too long, and I remember there being a lot of leaps of faith. The game is still worth playing at least once, though. The design and the atmosphere are seriously top-notch, and it's remarkably, oppressively grimdark.

Give it a shot, /vr/o.

Both. In context it works, but outside of the game...

It's like they heard the grungiest and harshest sounds the genesis was capable of producing and thought 'Yes, this is exactly what we want this to sound like.'

It's a quintessential Genesis game for all of the reasons listed in this thread combined with the obvious implication that it IS good enough to play for sure, despite its strange Genesissiness.

The animation leaves something to be desired but the gameplay itself is great

Rented it back in the day, i remember it being somewhat atmospheric but not very good.
