The IBM PC only came out in 81 and throughout the 80s there were better options for computer gaming like the Amiga. IBM clones only got great once VGA, sound cards and hard drives became commonplace.

As for whether they ruled it depends on the location and what you consider ruling.

For me personally after 93 i couldn't ignore PC anymore, and damn it was good, ended up always with a PC and some console that i liked.

It was amazing because the difference between the two provide two singular experiences for both.

>mfw when going from a afternoon playing Super Mario RPG to a night with friends and Quake.
>Those vacations with some cRPG that drain my life while at the same time had a console to bro up with some fighting game and beer with a bunch of friends.

Man...those were the times...

back in the days. i could persuade my parents to buy a pc worth a grand honest bucks. 100 bucks video game console? not a chance. maybe it was because of those impressive spreadsheets and graphs and things like that...

Up until Sony decided to make programming for consoles a less arcane task, possibly. I think the PSX opening up the console development process the first shot that would eventually cripple PC gaming. Not to mention that Japan's console gaming industry was a massive creative force, even if 3rd-5th generation consoles were being outperformed by PC hardware and graphics.

The 90's was probably the PC's best era, but I don't know if I would go so far as to say that they ruled it.

Off topic, but I miss the days when consoles didn't care about PC performance. They were made to make games, not do the taxes and run a company server

I just realized that those are in fact Diablo's horns and not crab claws.
