Which NES game has the best graphics?

pic related, its FFIII, any else?

Not even close. Try Battletoads or that one unreleased game with the framerate and movement speed that would have blown a massive hole into Sega's "blast processing" marketing if it had ever come out.

Little Samson, also Gimmick. Willow had some incredible effects. Also that one visual novel with improbably impressive animations.

Mr. Gimmick is probably the best. Smooth framerate, awsome pixel art and animation and barely any flicker. The cartridge had a custom chip and was probably programed by some genius.

Bio Force Ape? It's an interesting game, but the only known version of the game is three levels long and the final boss doesn't do a thing. They probably stopped development shortly after.

That's another thing, we all know that Nintendo wasn't exactly nice to third parties. However, several third party games such as Bio Force Ape seem to do things that try to side with Nintendo, such as Recca's hidden intro blowing up the Sega logo and replacing it with a Nintendo logo. Did Nintendo pay them for these things, did the third parties do this to earn respect, or did they do it on their own will?

I swear, it must've been a LAW in the 80's and 90's to have cartoons and the like to have a shoehorned dog sidekick. The game didn't even have a dog, did it?

>> No.1386972

The dog was in it, in fact you had a dog whistle item that allowed you to summon the dog, and then send it flying through the air as a projectile. It had independant movement from you, but followed you around.

it was one of those games whose graphics were specifically designed to look better on a CRT when the pixels bleed together. Emulated, it looks a bit noisy.

Filters are actually unavoidable if you want to display NES/SNES games on an LCD, because it's the only way to avoid uneven pixel size artifacts when you correct the aspect ratio.

What is 2x, 3x, 4x, etc

>> No.1388326

>>1388305
>>1388321
NES/SNES doesn't have square pixels. You can't use simple 3x etc. scaling. You could do 5x on X axis and 4x on Y axis, and that's reasonably accurate (considering CRTs didn't have perfect adjustment). I personally use 3x followed by bilinear, which gives slight blur and no obvious uneven pixel size artifacts). >>1388276 type scaling is slightly better because the blurring is only horizontal, but that doesn't allow for arbitrary final image size.

>> No.1388327

>>1388305
>>1388321

That only works if the original res is a multiple of 4:3. For 256x240 you will have a too square image, resulting in everything looking stretched vertically.

Street Fighter 2010. The AD claims it had graphics that rivaled 16-bit systems.

AND THEY DID. Still or animated, vastly under-represented.
