The things you mention are from End of Evangelion, which was an alternate movie ending for the series (replacing episodes 25/26).

>>1383716
Rebuild of Evangelion is a completely different thing. The first movie follows closely to the series (episodes 1-6), the second movie takes it to a different direction and the third one went extreme full retard.

>> No.1384417

>>1383594
You mean on the game? On the game there are a few endings, depending on the difficulty you finish the game. One ends on the TV series (i think), other ends just like Evangelion Rebirth, the other ends like on the first half of EoE, and the last ending is a retouched version of EoE ending, with Shinji holding hands with Asuka, rather than choking her to death. To get that last ending, you actually fight with the Unit-01 against the EVA series, using the Spear of Longinus (or jusr fork).

>> No.1387030

End of Evangelion isn't an alternate ending, it's the real ending. Episodes 25 and 26 only got made because they ran over budget.

I can't think of any QTE-based game, but the battle missions on Eva 64 remind me of the Ultraman games for Super Famicom. In fact, I'm pretty sure they used the same basic concepts.

>Models look better than in most PS2 games

They really worked hard on the Eva models in this game. It is without a doubt one of the best looking N64 games.

>> No.1387120

Come to think of it, considering that the Ghost in the Shell PS1 game did come out in the US, it is kinda surprising that we never got Eva 64. It would've come out right after ADV finished releasing the series on VHS and would've made for a hella tight cross-promotion.

>family friendly

I don't know why people still think like this. Yes, Nintendo does pretty family-oriented stuff, but they're not exclusive to that. Never was in Japan, and in the west they stopped that bullshit when the public called them out with the Mortal Kombat 1 SNES port. This was back in fucking 1993, and people STILL say that Nintendo censor games, when in 1994 they allowed MK2 with no censorship at all. This was 20 years ago.

>> No.1388461

It was weird but fun. Instead of making a game based on the show they made a SHOW SIMULATOR.

My reccomendation for playing this is "be 14 years old in the 90s". If you can't do that it won't be as good but it's still pretty fun. If you can do that it's like the best fucking thing ever. Advice also applies to Xenogears.

>> No.1388475

>>1388435
Just because Nintendo allowed some adult games doesn't mean their emphasis wasn't on family-friendly all-ages products. Nintendo's advertising is very rarely on M-rated games. Count up how many M-rated games were developed by Nintendo's first or second party developers, or hell, count up how many M-rated games were even published, even in part, by Nintendo. You can count them on one hand. So yeah, Nintendo isn't forbidding companies from making M-rated games for its systems, but they still have a family friendly emphasis.

I said, Nintendo does focus on family-oriented stuff, but that doesn't mean they *can't* release rated M shit. Yet for some reason, people think Nintendo are forbidden to do so.
A rated M game is released in a Nintendo console, or published by them, and people go all "shit, this game should be on Playstation or Xbox". For recent examples, Bayonetta 2 and all the shitstorm it caused. It makes me think peopel are retarded and don't even care about videogames, just about corporative images.

Anyway... back on topic, Evangelion 64 was pretty interesting, it has a lot of flaws, but since each chapter has its own kind of gameplay, the flaws don't stand out that much, and if you like the series, you will probably like this game a lot.

I liked how if you intentionally (or not) miss one of the QTEs against Zeruel, Eva-01 will get its arm chopped off, and just like in the series, will use Zeruel's metallic arm to regenerate its own arm... but if you don't miss it, Eva-01 won't lose the arm at all. These little details were pretty nice.
I also loved the Sandalphon mission (magma diver).

I hate the longinus lance mission though, and I have the actual N64 cart, I can't imagine how bad it must be if you emulate the game, that mission relies heavily on the N64's 3D stick precision.

>I can't imagine how bad it must be if you emulate the game, that mission relies heavily on the N64's 3D stick precision.

It's actually unfairly easy! You start off already lined up horizontally with the angel, and unless you press the left or right keys, you stay that way. The Ramiel mission is much harder with Shinji's arms trembling, but still doable.

What was literally impossible without cheating when I played on Project64 was clearing Zeruel on hard. The keys would get bizarrely but consistently remapped with each QTE: you need to press A, but A is now D-Pad Right, which is now Analog Up, etc., and NOTHING is A. Graphics glitches and outright crashing I could understand, but what causes that?

Never had too much trouble with Ramiel, but I must have tried and failed the spear mission at least a couple dozen times. Maybe it's actually easier with emulation? With the stick it's very very sensitive so you have to aim it in a very delicate way or you end up losing track.

I also had some trouble with Zeruel, but I don't know what you mean the buttons get remapped... but I do remember the reaction time is almost zero, so you have to press the button the same instant it flashes or you're too late. Almost like guessing.

Another trouble I had was the timing for the button mash when you have to break through AT Fields or beat Kaworu, if you press the buttons too rapidly, it won't work, it has to be a specific timing. Once I got the hang of it I could do it always, but at first I couldn't do it at all.
