1370748 No.1370748 [Reply] [Original]

After escaping Midgar, you stop fighting Shinra and start to search for Sephiroth, but I'm not sure why your meant to find him? What has he done wrong at that point in the game to make him the bad guy? Dunno if I missed anything in the story, but there seems to be no reason given.. Help?

>> No.1370760

The flashback at Kalm inn should of explained some of it. And the infamous scene at the City of the Ancients.

Just go to Kalm. And Cloud knows that Sephiroth is more dangerous and more evil than Shinra and has started looking for the promised land again. The promised land is important because ?????????

>> No.1370772

>>1370762

There's also a plot twist that explains it further

>> No.1370783

>>1370762

The Shinra searches for the promised land because they think its where Mako is just bursting out of the earth, Sephiroth doesnt actually search for it, hes already in his Makocapsule plotting the reunion.

Cloud and the gang are misguided just like the Shinra are at the time of Kalm since all Cloud knows to this point is that Seppl was searching for the promised land after he burned down that town and went after Jenova, he himself didnt know better at that time.

>> No.1370786

How about you play the game and find out? Do you immediately stop watching a film and ask /tv/ if there's a plot point that hasn't been fully explained to you?

>> No.1370787

>>1370783

I might add that Seppl has kind of found it, thats a few years before the game actually starts.

Everything in FF7 makes sense. Its just a bit clusterfucky at times and easy to misinterpret the plot and story.

I dont know how often I had to explain to people why Cloud is not a clone and stuff. On /v/ mind you.

>I dont know how often I had to explain to people why Cloud is not a clone and stuff. On /v/ mind you.

People thought cloud was a clone? From Zack? Or sephiroth? I guess I can see where the confusion would be if I were not paying attention but still.

The sub par translation didn't help either.

>> No.1370846

>>1370837

From Sephiroth. Hojo is to blame for all the confusion. Or maybe simply the translation. I played US and Ger release but both fucked with my head sometimes.

The game never really explains Clouds #1 tattoo, though. Hes not the first experiment with Jenova cells and neither the first clone.

So either Hojo is bably translated or incredibly well written because alot of people repeat his lies when explaining the plot or such.

Have you been to Kalm yet?

>> No.1370858

Cloud has Jenova cells in his blood and that isn't Sephiroth. It's Jenova, and your cells react violently to her, and compels you to follow her. Whenever Cloud has a conniption fit, he's near Jenova. When you were at the mako reactors near the lifestream where Jenova was hiding after being imprisoned by the ancients, near the tank in Shinra HQ with that chunk of Jenoca in it and when you are facing "Sephiroth" himself

Which sound was him getting raped?
The squish? I thought the guy implied that he couldn't get it up and nothing happened on the way out.

>> No.1371117

>all these people bitching that he wants everything told to him now

That's not it at all. The game goes from SHINRA being the big bad to suddenly just following Sephiroth around for no reason. It's not explained, it's not even really hinted upon. You just see that he killed President Shinra, fight Rufus, escape, then start a journey to follow him to stop him.

For no reason.
If they actually gave you a reason that you should be worried about Sephiroth it would be a lot better, but there isn't any real reason until way later in the game.

>> No.1371134

>>1371117
With President Shinra dead and Rufus gone, they didn't have much else to go on. There's the whole "promised land" connection, with the Shinra and Sephiroth both looking for the same thing. Following Sephiroth might lead to Rufus. Also, Cloud and Tifa have a history with Sephiroth so they would want to pursue him, and Aeris might be able to find out more about the Ancients if they go after Sephiroth. I don't even think it's really clear that they need to kill Sephiroth at that point, or that he's evil or anything, just that it's worth checking into.

Yes but in about 5 minutes he gets to Kalm and it's all explained in flashback form. There's literally nothing in between Midgar & Kalm but maybe some random world map battles so there's no way anything could have happened that would leave him wondering what was going on.

>Clouds #1 tattoo
Cloud doesn't have a tattoo, only the "successful" Sephiroth experiments got tattoos.
You meet a guy in Corel who saw the clone with the #1 tattoo head towards the Gold Saucer cable car.

>Hojo
The dude messed up his preliminary research on Ancients/Jenova, which means of lot of early plot reveals are misguiding if you take them at face value (like Sephiroth did when he had his mental breakdown in Nibelheim).
What's interesting is that Hojo tells you in Midgar disc 2, that he's injected himself with Jenova Cells, and promptly shows you his transformations. However it's not clear when he injected them. It could have been a final insane decision at the end of the road, or he could have been a pawn under the manipulative influence of Jenova while the main game was taking place.

>> No.1372027

>>1371205

I remember now, Cloud even asks him to give him a number. Thanks.

Hojo being under Jenovas influence wouldnt add much to the plot, though. All his actions are already quite rationally explainable with his own agenda fueling him.

I also wouldnt give the scene too much thought, it probably just was some way to make the fight more interesting/ a challenge.

Yes at this point its clear to cloud and tifa that sepiroth is involved but the player has no clue why he is important to them (the player can guess that he is important to the game/plot because he basicly killed the antagonist and shitloads of his minions)

And as far as i remember the group decides to follow sepiroth in kalm after all (including the player) know who he is.

The primary objective of the group after the dead of shinra president was to flee and not to follow sepiroth.

>> No.1372875

He did just leave his sword in the president's body did he? Would explain why none of the clones are ever seen with it. I know this doesn't add anything, I just noticed it now is all.

>>1370837
I'm playing through it right now, and someone said Cloud was just another clone of Sephiroth, then the gang doesn't know either and is questioning it, I think even Barret says at some point "If he's just another Sephiroth blah blah" when Cloud was in the wheelchair. Shortly after the story progresses to clear up that he's actually injected with cells. There were many suggestions, and a direct mention iirc, that Cloud might be a clone of Sephiroth, I can see why many would think that if they didn't play close enough attention to the story.

All the time.
Whatever was left of Jenova's will (if there was any at that point) was overpowered by Sephiroth in the Lifestream following the events at Nibelheim.

Also consider that Jenova had been in Shinra's possession for a long time before the start of FF7, and it never demonstrated any activity or control until Sephiroth had reformed his body at the beginning of the game

well I always thought the machinery at nibelheim reactor kept her alive and in control. since its cells are (very) active even without the brain maybe the head dropping into the livestream gave her sentience again. somewhat like it cured cloud. im still puzzled how sephiroth could materialize in flesh outside of his capsule and stick his sword into stuff. is there some explanation for that as well ?
