Nope. Buffalo's controllers are 100% unofficial.

so "he got his hands on" an nes, a snes, and an n64 controller? Why didn't he specifically say so? Why did he say: 'nes/snes' as if they were a single thing? It sounds suspiciously like he didn't actually have any of those things, and is just mentally comparing stuff.

The controllers were all quite different from each other. One was a very tiny box that had two buttons, one was larger, and for many games was intended to be fully palmed. N64 was even more different, being too massive to hold any single way, and was definitely intended to be completely grasped rather than typed like a keyboard.

The SNES is generally considered to be the best of all handheld controllers, assuming you don't include normal Saturn controllers when playing fighting games. This is for it's sheer durability more so than it's notable quality, and has been true for about 20 years, and nothing in recent memory has changed this basic truth. It has always been the gold standard for USB connections to PCs, which have, of course, become so common that we don't even consider it unusual to connect a console controller to a computer anymore.

The only essential caveat is the appearance of chasecam console games that require an 'analog controller.' These are not strictly retro of course, but the passage of time has slowly aged them to the point that you might actually need or want the little thumbstick controllers. For those types, I have no knowledge, I would assume it was some playstation variant. But for digital inputs, the snes controller remains the favorite.

I wish that I had bought about 10 of them when they were still being sold in stores.

Show the sources for your claim stating that these controllers are licensed by Nintendo, then. Can't? Thought so, bud.

It doesn't make them any more official just because they look and feel similar and you want them to be. Nintendo would never license a third party to make clone controllers for PCs anyway, when their main purpose is input when playing emulated Nintendo games.

As general life advice for the future I'd suggest to shut up instead of obnoxiously and persistently clinging on to baseless statements while proclaiming them to be the truth. It'll make you seem a lot less stupid if you just hold your tongue.

Why is the Saturn controller deemed so magnificent? The sliding D-Pad seems like it would get in the way all the damn time unless you were trying to pull off silly diagonals and shit in fighting games

>> No.1369360

>>1369297
Same. And not just firing, just about any in-game action is performed more efficiently. If it doesn't use analog input, it can be played better on a keyboard.

I play with dash, jump and shoot mapped to A, S and D respectively. My ring, middle and index fingers rest on those keys. I can input any combination of those commands at any time.

It's objectively superior to a SNES pad. It's almost cheating. A pad either requires you to do thumb gymnastics in order to dash jump and shoot, or it requires you to map dash and shoot to shoulder buttons, which is a rather uncomfortable workaround in my opinion.

>> No.1369425

>>1369360
I know that "as the developers intended you to experience the game" is to /vr/ what fedoras are to atheists, but considering that the controls for the games were made for a pad, that really is the way the devs intended the game to be played. Now that I have the CCPro adapter (and soon the Famicom controllers) I only play Megaman with a controller. I don't like re-mapping because MUH AUTHENTICITY. Shit, I'm buying two controllers that are the exact same, save the casing of the circuits, for authenticity (autistic, I know). The only times I re-mapped anything were with emulating the Famicom, making the mic button be X, and when mapping GBA games to use 4 face buttons. A good example would be Ultimate Spider-Man, as the whole 2 face-buttons thing made the devs map kick as L, and that would be a goshdang sin on anything with more than 2 face buttons

>> No.1369430

I know the idea is retarded but that post got me thinking
Does that mean that using old emulators with keyboard controls means you're playing a game with a keyboard the "right" way?
Like if I used the first release of Nesticle, would the argument that I'm trying to re-experience the game as the emulator devs intended me to be fly with /vr/?
It would certainly be a silly argument, but I'm just shooting shit here.

>> No.1369450

Certainly.

One of the great things of being able to emulate games on a superior platform is the great many things it enables you to do that are well and beyond the original capabilities of the original system.

>save states
>rewind
>filters
>movie recording
>netplay
>rom introspection
>sprite viewers
>music players
>debuggers
>rom hacking tools

And of course, the remapping of buttons to any kind of keyboard or controller layout you feel most comfortable with.

All of this is designed and baked into emulators for one reason: it improves upon the original experience in previously unimaginable ways, giving new life to it.

Honestly, don't bother. Get Foobar2000 and check out the components: http://www.foobar2000.org/components

There's a ton of supported systems and the centralization makes it easier to keep a music collection going. Also, Foobar2000 makes ripping songs very very easy. Once you get a setup going, you're going to be really happy.

Amusing idea, although not one that bothers me.

I play all games with keyboard. After 25 years of mastering keyboard skills and having acquired a collection of high-quality keyboards, I have no desire to play with anything else. I played Quake with keyboard aiming although I'll admit I found mouse better when I tried it.
