1364650 No.1364650 [Reply] [Original]

Let's have us a nice collection thread, /vr/. This is my current collection of PS1 games (sorry for not having the best quality). I've been working on replacing cases/replacing Greatest Hits versions recently. What do you guys have? Any recommendations?

Been working on my PS1 collection as well (though I'm not collecting simply for the sake of collecting or anything) in addition to other systems (which aren't exactly /vr/). Unfortunately I don't have any up to date images or anything at the moment.

>Any recommendations?
Depends on what you like and how much you're willing to spend on stuff. If you like JRPGs, I'd say to look into Tales of Eternia/Destiny II, considering it's held up quite well, but I wouldn't blame you for just emulating, as the game's pretty damn expensive to actually buy. Maybe Xenogears as well if you can find a reasonably priced copy and can deal with rather slow text speeds. I do notice that you seem to be missing Abe's Exoddus though. If you enjoyed the first game you should really probably look into the second.

On that note, how's Future Cop LAPD? I've seen it around from time to time but never really looked into it.

Sweet, thanks for the recommendations. Cost of a game is a non-issue in the future (games around the 100-150 dollar mark that are truly worth it I save a few bucks each paycheck for; I'll make sure to check it out.).
I don't collect for the sake of collecting though, either. I used to have way more games than this, but it was just really bad shovelware/sports games I got from buying in lots. I've since gotten rid of such games in my entire collection, I'm trying to narrow it down to games I like.
>Xenogears
I've been meaning to pick this up, just haven't gotten around to it yet. One of my friends really likes this game, and it's been in the back of my mind to buy for a while now.
> I do notice that you seem to be missing Abe's Exoddus though
I actually just picked up Abe's Oddysee the other day. Played it and I really liked it so far, I'll remember to pick up Exodus when I get a chance.
>how's Future Cop LAPD
Actually, that's another one I just picked up the other day (got a real nice lot of stuff for 40 bucks), so I haven't actually been able to play it yet, sadly. Many on this board say its a pretty good game though. I always see it pop up in PSX recommendation threads (which is why I got mine).

One game I've been looking to get is Dragon Seeds, though. It's a bit pricey online (bout 30 bucks) but I hear that it's pretty fun. Anyone here played it and can tell me whether its worth it or not?

>Cost of a game is a non-issue
Well, as far as Tales of Eternia, I'd say it's worth it since it's a lot of fun to play if you like fluid, fast paced action JRPGs, but that's just me. If you haven't tried the series just yet, maybe try emulating it a bit first and see if you think it feels like something worth dropping money on. I got a copy a few years back for $90, complete and nearly mint condition, and have no regrets about it since it felt pretty damn good to play, with multiplayer co-op being fun as well. Main reason it (and Tales of Destiny as well, I suppose), is due to Namco failing to market the games out here and both getting rather small print runs as a result.

As for Xenogears and Abe Exoddus, they seem to run about $30-35 and $16-20 respectively where I live, so those two aren't nearly as bad as far as price goes.

Gotcha. Well, I'll be sure to check out Tales of Eternia/Destiny when I get a chance, especially if there's co-op multiplayer. Thanks for the suggestions!

>> No.1364864

>>1364834
No problem. In theory, pretty much all console Tales games (barring Legendia due to decisions by the guest team leading to no multiplayer at all, and Xillia and Xillia 2 due to the link system requiring AI controlled partners, resulting in multiplayer only feasible for two players at max) support up to four player co-op, though it's worth noting that with some of them (especially the earlier ones), the co-op camera is a bit wonky and can make it a bit hard to see what is going on with it (most later games ironed this issue out). Don't get me wrong, it's still a blast to play on co-op, but the camera kind of limits you as to how many people can feasibly play with, as due to the camera focusing on player 1, unless the other player(s) are playing melee and targeting the same target/side of the field, it can be a bit of a pain to get more than two or three people playing without someone complaining they can't see what's happening to their character/side of the field. Eternia in particular is probably best played with up to two people, since Reid and Farah are the only true melee characters in the game.

As for Destiny, it's worth noting that compared to Eternia (and even Phantasia PSX; emulate this if you want to play it since only the GBA port reached the west and it was garbage), it's pretty clunky, but that's understandable for being only the second game in a long running series, and it took until Phantasia PSX and especially Eternia to get the flow of combat ironed out. Still, it can make it a bit hard to go back and play after playing the later, more fluid games, so just a heads up about it. Real shame the PS2 remake and DC of it never made it over, as from what I hear it was a vast improvement mechanically over the original.

I would give Bushido Blade or Driver a try. If you haven't heard of either, BB is a realistic weapon-based fighting game. Think of Soulcalibur with a body damage system and possible 1 hit kills and Driver is a getaway driving game.

When I was younger, a relative of my sister's kids brought their copy to my place but didn't know we already had it. They accidentally left it, so now I have two copies of Final Fight.

How about game series collections?

I know there's a few people on here who can easily top mine, but I'm proud of it. I've only got about one more game to go (Famicom Valis) before I have to make a yahoo japan account to find new stuff.

If they ever make a new Valis game that isn't a shameful disgrace to the series they should give it the Mega Man 9 treatment and do the US cover in the same horrible style.
