What's /vr/ opinion of Alien Soldier?

I think it ranks among the very best Genesis/Megadrive games; unique, insanely fast and very fun to play. I won't say it's underrated, but deserves more discussion.

Well it indeed is one of the best games of its generation. In many ways it's like a version of Gunstar Heroes for people who found it too easy.

Good one, I lol'd.

Also yes, I fucking love it. It's amazing from a technical standpoint, as well as a gameplay one. Treasure were Mega Drive gods.

Like Rare to Nintendo. But, you know, with more variety.

I like Alisia Dragoon better but they're both examples of what makes Mega Drive great.

>> No.1344275

one of the greatest games of all-time and treasure's magnum opus =^_^=

>> No.1344290

Too hard for me. But I won't give up on it either, ever.
It's really a fast action title I hope to master one day because I loved the mechanics and condensation of the action. And as always, it does have that Treasure quality and charm.

The sound programmers who worked on this game really knew how to use the YM2612.

All the enemies feel like they have too much HP.

Problem is getting health for it.

I'm pretty sure someone in this board posted some sage advise about weapon's attributes and bosses weakness and I'm waiting for re-reading that because I didn't note it back then...

what?
normal enemies are all one-hit kills, and the bosses are BOSSES--what do you expect??
maybe you just suck? most of the early bosses can get one-shotted on supereasy..

>Like Rare to Nintendo

Except not really. Natsume's games are more like the SNES' equivalent of Treasure's stuff.

>> No.1346840

It's one of my favorite games, my second favorite Genesis game, and my second favorite Treasure game.
I love it.

Really wish it had gotten a GBA sequel instead of Gunstar Heroes, especially since Gunstar Super Heroes made a lot of changes to the formula that just made it more like Alien Soldier.

I love it. Favourite genesis game.

>> No.1346856

I think it's kind of too long for such a limited amount of continues.

Then again, I totally suck at it.

>> No.1346858

>>1346856
You could play on SUPEREASY mode with unlimited continues and the ability to slow the game down using a pause menu (time still runs down at normal speed though, so be careful with that shit).

>> No.1346867

I wish it wasn't so expensive, I totally wanna add it to my japanese Mega Drive collection one day.

>> No.1346869

The difficulty setting psychs me out.

>Very easy
>Very hard

Nigga, I ain't no baby, I'm not gonna play on Very easy, but at the same time, I'm not even gonna bother with Very hard.

So I pick Very easy anyway and find it's hard as shit for me.

>>1346869
What's with those games that don't have a 'medium' difficulty anyway? I always found that weird.

I'm about average at videogames, so I'm always conflicted on what to pick.

>> No.1346892

I love Alien Soldier and it's without doubt one of the best 16-bit games. My objection is that its difficulty is overrated. Maybe at first it looks very hard but once you learn how the game works (and it's not so complicated) you will fight like a boss.

>>1346869
Actually the difficulty at Very Easy is practically the same with Very Hard. The only difference is that in Super Easy there are unlimited continues (of course you start from the beginning of the stage you lost and the stages at this game are short) and level passwords.

>> No.1346895

So, what are the best weapons to pick in this game?

>> No.1346916

>>1346895
Depending on the stage/boss you play.

There's also the ability to slow down the game in a special pause menu only available on Supereasy.
Why do I seem to be the only person aware of this?
I think there might be a few other very minor differences as well, like bosses and enemies might be slightly more aggressive or something maybe. I mostly notice this with Seven Force.
And I don't know what the difference is exactly, but I always seem to get a higher score for more or less the same level of performance on Superhard.

Well, it's not called Superhard for nothing, you probably have a bonus in the points you get as an incentive.
