I actually liked X-2's sphere break more though. BUT since it's not retro, my vote for best retro game goes to the FF7 snowboarding.
I spent waaay too much time on that.

At its peak, there were about 20 players in my school, making and trading among each other. And we played for keeps. We even had a tournament.

I loved Triple Triad too but there wasnearly no strategy to it, essentially once you have an array of A-sided cards you win.

That's why online never made sense unless there was some mechanic for slowly accruing cards rather than having everything from the get go.
