Also back,to the thread:

I hate having to play the game to unlock characters for fighting games but when you shut off the console it resets.

Why do we have story mode plus arcade mode plus versus mode.

Why don't people leave the demo disks in the case with the game they come with.

Why include items for characters that are already dead.

Why give you an option in the text box if only one option advances and the other just says but you must and gives you the same option again.

I don't understand your problem. Having better, more expensive equipment in each successive town is so common in RPGs that it's a mainstay of the genre.
Is your problem that the towns are too close together? Like, you can access one so soon after the other that you might as well have passed up on buying that previous tier of equipment?

Chrono Trigger was actually worse, because you'd find BETTER equipment in treasure chests just minutes into the next area. Might as well just spend all your G's on tonics and ethers at that point.

Also, since we're talking about CT:

>plot-related weapon is hyped up to be extremely powerful and legendary
>go on long, tedious adventure to get it
>finally obtain it and find out it kicks ass and is fucking awesome, but
>gets slightly stronger weapon at next town

Now, I'll cut CT some slack here, because the Masamune -does- get upgraded at the end of the game, but I still hate it when games do that. Completely takes you out of the game.

RPGs with equipment that are all functionally the same but with different stats.

When you have equipment of differing effectiveness but also have unique attributes, that makes for more interesting situations. Normal attack strength is important, but is it as important as boosting certain spell types? This armor might be weak against physical attacks, but is better against magic.

This was my favorite part of Tomb Raider 3, I remember. The only thing that sucked about it was on the PC version, if you wanted to cheat to skip the level, you had to find your guns because the code includes drawing your guns.

I played it on the PS so it didn't matter, I guess.

I remember in Phantasy Star 2 I was so conservative with TP. There was no way to restore it outside of visiting a clinic. If you were deep in a dungeon and ran out of heling items, without enough TP to use healing techs you were screwed if you forgot to bring along an escapipe and telepipe. If you had the visiphone you better watch where you save otherwise you could be stuck somewhere near death.

In games where you get consumables that cast decent spells I usually don't end up using them because I'm afraid I'll need them later. So I end up at the last boss with tons of them. Older games are just more stingy with that stuff. So now when I play modern games that toss tons of items at you, I still don't use them.
