Fair point.

>forgetting to actually have a reason to come here

What's /vr/'s favorite UT?

>> No.1336169

I can't play it anymore because it's too depressing how bad I've gotten at it...

When I was younger I could pull off multi-monster kill headshot chains with a rifle.

Now I can pull off multi-wallshot miss chains and watch bots paint rooms with me..

UT 99 is the GOAT and most /vr/ approved.

UT fans, have you ever played Unreal? I know that sounds like a stupid question but more often than not people seem to be unaware of its existence.

Hopefully it's not too late to start playing UT for the first time, r-r-right?
what are the main differences between UT and Quake?

I love the tac ops mod

Playing UT maps with modern weapons was a cool addition

The original is still better then most first person shooters today. EVEN factoring graphics.

I prefer it to UT just because it has a single player campaign and the multiplayer is pretty much the same

Unreal is so fucking criminally underrated.

The music, the level design and the feeling of isolation are amazing

I can not stop gushing on about this game

I just got a GOG copy.

I was pretty bummed that I need to get umod support in and that I needed to obtain content that should be there, but otherwise it's fucking awesome.

>> No.1338303

just started playing UT last year, its so great.

i love how every weapon feels powerful to a skilled player. i love jump dodging, and i love the levels. so much better than Quake 3

>> No.1338314

quake 3 is simpler and feels like doom or other old school fps. the controls are nearly perfect, but it has less weapon and map variety.

UT is a casual version of Q3. Quake has much deeper mechanics and its more competitive and its a game that will take a long dedication master. UT can be more fun for begginers but if you want to stick with a deathmatch multiplayer, UT scene is almost non existant.

This comes from a former UT player who went to play Quake after the UT scene died out.

GOTY Edition was fucking awesome. I expected the new maps and weapons to suck but they were all actually pretty damn cool.

>> No.1338494

I have fond memories of the Strangelove CTF, Deathmatch, and massive sniper maps. Unreal 1 is still the best old FPS for me. Shame Half-Life kinda eclipsed it.

>> No.1338941

if i want to get into UT for the first time, which should i get: '99 GOTY or '04? which is more active?

>> No.1339717

>>1338941
Quake Live is the most active deathmatch game right now sadly. UT2K4 is more active than 99 but they are both dead. 99 is more enjoyable overall but 2K4 has some fun modes like onslaught

04.

the best part for me is when you meet your first Skaarj.

each light in the hallway turning off one by one and then suddenly growls coming from the pitch darkness

>> No.1343634

do ppl in /ut99/ have any links to the best mods?

I got back into this recently with my brother but he n i struggled to find a decent number of skins/models/voicepaks on the net, let alone ones that actually worked, plus trying to get them working in Multiplayer on the LAN was yet another problem.

I'm up for uploading/linking what I have and contributing to an unofficial /vr/ battlepack (full of mods, skins, models etc) that we can all use when we play

It was the first game I ever played that actually felt like an adventure. There was no epic quest, no stakes to fight for, you were just some escaped prisoner who wanted to get the hell off that planet and didn't give a crap what happened along the way.

This thread makes me want to play it again, but then I remember the Nali water temple.

My favorite mod to date is Thievery UT. It's basically Thief (The Dark Project) as a multiplayer game, thieves vs. guards.
