So I just found a 36' Sony Trinitron on craigslist for $10.
I have generally heard they are the best for retro gaming. I have zero knowledge when it comes to CRT TV's.

Is that a good deal?

Link to the listing? Don't worry about anybody stealing it, 99% chance it's local pickup only.

no pictures.
Already emailed the poster about getting pics.

Also, was unsure if it would have Coaxial AV, RCA AV, or both, given it was made in '99

nothing?

I'm really just looking for any sort of input here /vr/. Seeing as I don't even have a tv at the moment, I might as well just by it anyway.

It's hard to say with no model number or picture. You'd probably want to email them and ask about model, or at least what kind of inputs it has. It's likely fine, and for 10 bucks you're not really taking a risk. If you do go get it, you might have to bring a friend to load/unload it because those bitches tend to be real heavy.

Will it really be that heavy at 36' ?

I have a 32" Trinitron and it weighs over 100 pounds easy, and it's bulky as hell, not something you can easily carry by yourself.

>>1333121
If it was made in 99, it'll probably have at least S-Video on it, in addition to coax and RCA

I've got two Trinitrons, 30 something inch (Pic attached, not mine) and 15" - for different rooms.

They're both fantastic but only have RCA AV inputs. The upside is a lot of them.

I'd go for it OP, Trinitrons are reliable, I'd swear by them, but as others have said, be wary about the bulk of a CRT that size, unless it has handles you'll probably need two people or some load bearing equipment.

Got a similar one, these things are solid. Go for it, OP.

Yes. TV's are really damn heavy. Bring gloves if your hands aren't callused enough. More often than not the bottoms of the TV has weird grid designs in the plastic, and the edges of that plastic can get pretty sharp when 120lbs is pushing it into your hands. A friend of mine slashed 3 of his fingers on one last month while we were moving it.

There's a reason LCDs are the standard now, despite being the worst tech. They are cheap compared to Plasma and light compared to CRT. Anything CRT over 20" is ridiculously heavy. A 40" might as well weigh a ton.

>a little heavy
Pretend it's a girl saying that on a dating site.

Also, ask for a model number or something, for all you know it's a widescreen only 100hz model.

I love mine. Has,like, six AV,Ports. An s video port might be present depending,on the year.

Large Trinitrons all have handles molded into the plastic on the bottom.

Did they really do this in Europe? I would have figured 31KHz would have been better used on a progressive-scan mode, rather than more fields per second.

50Hz flicker is really annoying, much worse than 60Hz flicker. But 100Hz TVs don't have true 100Hz support, they only interpolate 50Hz so they are useless for games.

That's something I've been meaning to ask. Is it possible to create "lightweight" CRT monitors? These look especially small by CRT standards, so if one company where to R&D how to maintain their advantages while shaving down the weight, would it be possible to have a 'moderately heavy' TV despite being 40'? It'd be a lost cause, but the technology has to exist.

>> No.1335923

I had a 32' one that died on me. It would repeatedly cycle on/off.

Screens that should have been black had a red tinge to them, overall color was going way off.

Took that fucker to a dump. Any old CRT will do, people only love trinitrons because some of them have component hookup which is nice for emulating retro on the wii.

Buy it, even if it doesn't work for your games you can get a fresnel lens out of it which are pretty awesome you can make solar cookers and incinerators out of them.
