Does it feel weird to use a pre-analogue stick PS1 controller?

>> No.1323651

>>1323638
No. I prefer it, they're more comfortable imo.

>> No.1323672

Yes. Even though I used one from winter 1995 all the way until the dual shock release, it still feels weird.

>> No.1323670

Ever since I started coming to /vr/, I haven't been able to do dualshock finger yoga. The dpad is simply more comfortable.

When I emulate ps2 games, I either use an Xbox controller or rock the dpad.

I honestly can't remember the last time I've even seen one around...

THEYRE SO GODDAMN LIGHT AND WEIRD AND THEY DONT HAVE RUMBLE OMFG

>> No.1323750

Yes, it is weird. Even if you prefer the dpad, which I do, I came into contact with a pre-duel shock PS1 controller about a year, maybe two, ago and it just felt weird.

Full disclosure I played about 600 hours (10 hours a day, every day) of a number of PS1 titles during a particular summer highschool summer, with the non-duel shock controller. However, ever since the PS2 came out I've been using my orignal PS2 controller with a chinese USB adapter for just about everything, so the decade+ of those two sticks being there has defiantly made me accustom to their presence, even if I use the d-pad more often.

>> No.1323772

When Sony designed the Dualshock controller, they enlarged the whole controller by around 10-20%. They also made the middle section a lot wider in proportion to the dpad and face buttons. The result is that old PSX controllers feel fucking tiny.

Also, the buttons feel weird because the Dualshock uses analog pressure sensors on everything, whereas the original is all digital.

>> No.1324068

>>1323772
No it doesn't. Dualshock 2 dows but Dualshock 1 was only analog on the sticks.
>>1323737
You can even find gray PS1 dual analog controllers that don't have rumble (scph-1180)

Don't they have a single motor in the center of the controller? I remember reading that the Japanese release of these controllers had... combustion problems. So, they redesigned them into the DualShock.

>>1323638
They're a bit smaller than DualShock controllers, and the L2/R2 triggers are the same size as L1/R1. It's not too strange though.

DualShock 2 and 3 use pressure-sensitive buttons. DualShock 1 and 4 do not.

Feels weird. They are nice, but honestly I never understood why if you are going to evolve the SNES controller why not just Sega the thing and give it 6 face buttons it would have as many buttons as original PS1 then.

Hell N64 could have done that too and just put a small stick next to the dpad, would have been awesome and much less shit.

Not the versions of the controller outside of Japan. Also it's even bigger than the Dualshock

Not at all. I still see them occasionally.

Now Dual Analogs are rare as fuck!

Holy shit where are you from. At least Poorfags in Brazil can afford PS2s and PS3s.

MFW the Saturn pad still feels glorious.

The original psx pads do feel odd, but it's perfectly functional for 9/10 games.

Still beats the shit out of a Jaguar pad anyday.

I love the Saturn, but the controller is awful imo.
Are you talking about the digital one or the ones with analog sticks?

The digital one feels really cheap, particularly the triggers, and it hurts my fingers after playing for a while.

It looks so damn cool though

The d-pad, but i play a shit load of fighters, it's wonderfully responsive, works well for scrolling shooters too. i can't stand shitty d-pads.

Imagine my pain when SF4 came out, and i owned a fucking 360. MFW

That's not really the reason. The taxes aren't even that high.

>>1325015
That's also for little kiddies though. "give him a cheap megadrive so he'll shut up"

PS2s are really cheap so they're the go to system. 360s and PS3s are much more affordable for the poor person now.

They feel like the "toy" version of the PS2/3 controllers. I don't own a PS4 so I can't compare it to that. They also feel quite stiff... maybe it's just my imagination, but I feel like the button presses were much improved in later editions of the Playstation. Or maybe it's just my controller in particular. I also feel as though the height and thus actuation point of the shape buttons was increased in later controllers.

I used to strongly disapprove of the triggers in later ones, but they've grown on me thanks to the right kind of games utilizing things that actually receive benefit from pressing a button with different levels of force, such as driving games, things requiring "balance", etc. They're still poorly designed in terms of shape, though.
